Cowans Hill Walkway
We did this on our bikes and it was quite tough for younger ones on their bikes. A couple of uphill climbs and some with loose gravel/rocks. We started the track near the bridge on the state highway. The views are brilliant and there’s a nice rest point at the lions seat. The track from the lions seat is mostly downhill to the main state highway. There is a short part of this track which involves cycling on the road so just be mindful with younger kids.

University of Canterbury Mt John Observatory
Approx 45 min walk up from Tekapo Hot Springs car park. Stunning scenic views, walking through the forrest to reach the peak with even more amazing views of the whole of the Lake + surrounding mountains, Mount Cook, etc. We’ll worth the walk uphill. Nice little cafe at the top too. Great spot for photos.

Cowans Hill Walkway
One of the good short walks usually to the top seat looking down on the lake and Tekapo village .and back is best as to continue down only means walking back along the busy road into town .of turn around and go back again.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay, can’t fault it. Luke was an amazing host, and we are so grateful for his compassion and helpfulness especially when mum unfortunately had a medical emergency in the middle of the night during our stay.You will be well looked after here!

We visited a public open night and were wowed. The people are super passionate and knowledgeable and the viewing the sky with the telescopes was incredible. Will definitely be back.

Great staff meals are plentiful and different. Nice under floor heating throughout so always warm a real bonus that puts this place ahead of other such places and plenty of firewood we loved the experience

I accidentally booked for the wrong night, but the staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly and managed to get us into the show very quickly. We watched the gorgeous Pink Floyd show and were completely mesmerized, highly recommended!

Came for the stargazing - a gorgeous, very well stocked cellar with an adjoining observatory. Our star guide was friendly and knowledgeable and our hosts were amazing.
