YHA Wellington Backpacker Hostel
For a hostel it is what you expect but slightly worse. The other YHA’s are so much better. The rooms are a bit dirty and smelly. Common bathrooms and kitchens are quite dirty too. Don’t expect hot water when showering too. With just some slight improvements (eg. Good cleaning) the place will be so much better. Staff is friendly expect one guy who is quite rude to the customers. If we are paying for a private room, the least they could do is just clean the room well after a check out. Seems like they are quite understaffed as well. But the location is fantastic!

Very good place to stay for travellers. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and up to date. Maybe a little pricey but nonetheless, would recommend 100%

Having stayed at YHA in Australia and NZ, we thought YHA Wellington should be fine. Booked a room with en-suite for 4 nights.Room was awful. It was in really bad conditions, lack of power sockets and there’s no WiFi at all (it was at 5th floor) despite what the staff insist. Toilet was also in very bad condition. The deal breaker was the toilet flush doesn’t work. After a flush, it takes 30min before it can flush again. The pump was that weak. We can’t live with this. Demanded a refund and checked out the next morning.

Very bad value for money! Key cards for the rooms often don’t work, was because of that locked out of my room at night and had to sleep in one of the common rooms two times. Also the Wifi is extremely bad.The kitchen is good but for a hostel that size there are not enough toilets and showers per floor which is why they get dirty quickly. My room was basically ok, but the bed linen was dirty and no Wifi. It is still by far not the worst hostel I stayed in but for this price I expect it to be much better. Location is probably the best thing about his hostel. Wouldn’t stay again.

It’s an excellent place to stay with all necessary facilities provided by the mangement. Staff is very cooperative. I suggest everyone to stay here to enjoy your leisure time.

Private room with en-suite bathroom is across from fire station on busy street. Room incredibly hot and window can only crack open. Fan not functioning. No fan or alternative rooms available. Cancelled remainder of stay and found somewhere else to get a good nights rest.

On the surface, it's a classic YHA hostel, so you know what to expect. Lots of rooms, good communal space for networking and relaxing, and a degree of service and cleanliness. The location is great, right opposite a large supermarket open until 11pm.However, it has definitely seen better days and many things fell below expectations, e.g. lift not working, laundry machines awaiting repair, very thin walls. We had a private en suite, but there was no hot water. When we reported it the next morning, they already knew about the issue and offered a refund. Great for the refund but why didn't they tell us before we arrived or when we checked in.?The kitchen areas are well-stocked with cooking equipment. Unfortunately the younger 'staff' are immanture, unprofessional and ruin it a bit, talking loudly and negatively about guests and others, and 'closing' the kitchen early for cleaning (at 7.30pm, right in the middle of dinner time, instead of the advertised 9pm). Something for the management to address.

Average stay, nothing special once again from a YHA hostel.- Staff don’t seem eager to help and seem slow in their job.- Large and well equipped kitchen and lounge chill area.- The bed has no electricity sockets or charging points next to it, which is very disappointing for this day and age.- The rooms have lockers were to safely store belongings which was good. The hostel is in a good location, no atmosphere whatsoever and nothing special about it.
