Booked a visit, arrived and was turned away by a very unfriendly and unwelcoming teacher. Bad first impression, not sending my kid here.

I do not go to this school. I only come here to play soccer with my friends at this school on the field. The thing I do not like about this school and would not recommend anyone going to is that it does not follow the New Zealand curriculum. I am currently at a college as a year (do not want to say because that would give information about me) and I asked my other friends at another college and they say they did the exact same thing which goes for every other college. Over here in mission height they do their own things. Year 7-10, their own grading system which doesn’t make sense, a junior college (every school in New Zealand is primary. Intermediate. High school or college. And University. Where did you get this label from). I read a review that said primary work. For year 7 to 8 I can’t complain so many intermediates are like that year 9-10 is where I strongly disagree because you aren’t getting kids ready for Ncea you aren’t teaching kids what you have to teach them. When I was a year 9 we did topic on a healthy living. So many research assessments on heart, respitory system and more, every college is supposed to do that but you have your own ways. Don’t be surprised to see that the kids here are going to fail ncea. I strongly recommend the owners of this school to change its curriculum and switch it to the New Zealand. So kids can get the brighter future they need.

Honestly the school isn’t horrible and yes I am writing this on a fake account. Deeps are the best part and teachers sometimes change it and it is quiet upsetting (I’m trying to write this as short as possible). Most of the teachers are good but some of the forest teachers are quite demanding.. and of course I’m not trying to hate this school because I have made lots of friends AND memories. But sometimes some teachers think they are everything. It’s not only complaining though, I do have feedback aswell. I think that there should be more better deep options rather then (for example) walking or exercising. There should be more painting deeps, crafting deeps etc and ya (tried to make this look formal lmao)

alright, this is like the fifth time i'm editing/changing my review, i'm finally leaving after this year, so that's great. i get to evaluateso i'll start with the curriculum i guess. i'm writing this at the start of 2022, but in 2021 i felt like all we did was revise, revise, revise, even though we were supposedly something new. 3/4 of the deep selections are uninteresting which is a total drag. teachers are either strict and care wait too much, or they just don't care, and don't teach you a single thing.now, personal issues. students have drama, that's obvious, especially at this age. i just don't think the teachers know how to handle that type of stuff except for a few of them. whether it's romance, friendship, something related to social media, they don't know how to handle it. i know it's not their job to handle our problems, but i think it IS their job to understand us properly, regardless whether it's education-related or not. and helpful tip, if we want to be left alone, leave us alone.the counselor hasn't been the best either, instead of listening to your problems and trying your best to relate to you, she just gives you her 'advice' on what you should probably do. this is from personal experience.the budgetting, ah yes, the budgetting. because we definitely need a one million dollar shade for the poor kids with no hats to play, (that was sarcasm if you couldn't tell.)spend it on something that we actually need? i would honestly love a school pool so swimming sports doesn't have to be so far away, you could have a swimming team practice there!but no, instead you decide hEy LeT's pUt a BiKe tRaCK sO oUr eNviRo tEaChEr cAn cYcLe aRoUnD! nO oNE eLsE iS gOnNa uSe It!" (you know who i'm talking about.)i'm just concerned for what they're gonna spend it on next

So, the little blurb above the reviews section is a complete lie, teachers are very strict, we get quite a bit of homework, but not too much, the subjects can be annoying and repetitive, at least they have an okay playground... oh wait, some of it's broken. They also treat us like we're little babies who can't deal with anything except schoolwork. I mean, they spent $2,000,000 on the cloud & astroturf, on the courts like we can't deal with sunburns or falling on concrete! They even spent like $200,000 on A/C, they also have very itchy jerseys, the schoolwear for MHJC is also astronomically expensive, plus they have a pretty strict dress code. overall I rate MHJC a 1/10 because at least I get to leave and go home!

This school is not good when I came here in year 7 and left in year 10 I would consider these 4 years the worst use of time. The teachers really don ´ t care about how you feel.
