Beautiful beach! Perfect for a day trip. Bring a snorkeling kit or hire a kit/transparent canoe. Really good marine life that you are able to get close up to.

Honestly, how is this a functioning buisness.2 shelves full of quarantine tanks, they all have white spot problems. When looking around at the 'good' tanks, 8/10 tanks had dead fish in them. She started picking them out, and got sick of it then goes ah well its what they would do in the wild." As a group of fish are eating the dead one. You have a white spot problem but still allowing fish to eat the dead? Seriously

The National Aquarium of New Zealand
Great experience for the whole family with lots to explore & see. My youngest daughter has been fascinated by the underwater world and so we found ourselves checking out fish, sharks, stingrays, penguins and many other marine creatures in the aquariums. The layout was great, exhibits were all well designed and interactive, and presentation during penguin feeding was educational & fun.Best to arrive around 1pm in time for the little Penguin feeding at 1:30pm and Oceanarium Diver hand feeding at 2pm. Highly recommend a visit if you're in Napier.

Goat Island Marine Discovery Centre
Lots of fun for a family with an 8-year old. The staff were amazing, taking time to show us the microscope and develop our knowledge of the various sea life. Touch pool was fun also. Reasonably priced and worth spending an hour if your near Leigh. Very limited parking - we parked at the Goat Island reserve site and walked 3 mins to the centre.

I thought it was a touch expensive for what we got to experience. A pleasant self guided walk where you can feed the trout.Without a doubt the best $5 I have ever spent was on a sausage sizzle at the end. Massive size and well cooked.

Milford Sound Underwater Observatory - Southern Discoveries
Reasonably worthwhile extension to the Milford Sound cruise. Descend 60 steps to view the underwater world and see fish, black coral and that's about it. However, the guy gave a really interesting talk about the geology and glacial process, plus facts about local wildlife.

SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton's Aquarium
If you suffer from vertigo you will be on the ground just entering this place. There is a spinning tunnel that almost had me on the ground right at the entrance. The penguins were great to see so close and I enjoyed the ray aquarium but the deep part made me slightly depressed because a lonely turtle was just swimming in circles at the far end and it reminded me how alone I am in this world.Loved seeing the huge ray in the tunnel, although the conveyor was a tad annoying with people going the wrong way around. The tropical/marine aquariums were a bit of a let down honestly, I had hoped there would be more on display. All in all it was a good 20 minutes. I wouldn't pay the steep price of $45 for a second visit though. I have my own aquariums so I do understand how expensive they are to maintain properly.

SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton's Aquarium
Before arriving I messaged sea life via their Facebook page to ask if we could bring our own food, I didn't receive any response at all. There is no contact number for sea life on the website. I checked the website for more details and it said we could not bring our own food. Upon arrival we noticed many people had bought their own food. There were only 8 tables in the Cafe and 2 small tables for kids drawing. We visited during school holidays and found that there was no where near enough seating available, although there was room for more tables and chairs. We found the restrooms really unclean, it was quite a shock for the amount of people there during school holidays there was not more staff on to cater for these times. The actual aquarium itself was great! I would be good to see more resources going into the upkeep and maintenance of the rest room facilities and a revamp of the Cafe area. Hopefully one day they will revamp the parking so there is move available spaces. We purchased our tickets in advance but found we didn't get in any quicker as everyone was queuing in one line.
