Awesome bit of history. Can walk here from the other end but we parked, looked around then drive to the other carpark and did the walks that way

Awesome place to stop for glowworms in the night and a hike and waterfalls in the day. We were lucky to see both kayaks and rafts come down Tutea Falls.

Okere Falls
We had a rainy week in Rotorua and walking to these falls was one of the activities that we enjoyed despite the weather. We took our raincoats and we became wet, but it was fantastic! Very close from town and the walk to visit 3 wild falls and a cave was easy enough even for our kids.

What an amazing place! The walks are easy but yet so rewarding to see the mighty falls. Check out my photos for walk times. I highly recommend walking to the bottom of the falls approx 20mins one way and checking out the cave, the stairs can be difficult going down so just keep that in mind. Plenty of parking available at the top, big enough for motorhomes as well and there ate toilets here too.

You actually get to get up close and personal to the powerful torrent to get those close up photos or you can stand back and enjoy at a distance

Okere Falls can be viewed from the track that goes opposite the public toilets at Okere Reserve carpark. You can see the whole mighty Okere Falls. I saw some people jumped over the fence and climbed down the hill to see the waterfall from the base. They had a hard time coming up and the ground was muddy. It was advised not to go down. The water was strong and the walk from the carpark was like 2 minutes. I think wheelchairs can go here depending if the ground is dry like the day we went to see Okere Falls

A spectacular short walk to the caves and to the trout lake....great to see the kayakers coming down the falls too. Great history of the hydroelectric plant and caves where local iwi hid during war times.
