Cool triangular shaped memorial to the naval aviator and explorer Richard E. Byrd. The memorial has a compass at it's rear and faces exactly due south which represents Byrd's association with exploration in Antarctica. A nice place to visit if you are up Mount Victoria. There were some very brazen and vocal tui here feeding on the harakeke (flax) flowers.
