Stayed 2 nights after walking the Old Ghost Road. Staff were amazing, so friendly, welcoming and helpful. Food scrumptious. Room a delight. Very peaceful and perfect atmosphere and decor for where and what it is.

Nice Lodge at the end of the walk. No espresso machine but good plunger coffee available. Great cheese scones. Pizza looked good too.

Friendly caring staff who made us feel welcome and comfortable after getting off the tramp wet weary hungry and cold. Great hot showers, soft towels. Generous delicious dinner and access to teas/coffees. Comfortable self-serve dining. Great experience.I would have stayed more nights if our time allowed.

You HAVE to stay here after doing Old Ghost Road! Cannot describe the wonderful feeling of finishing a fantastic but exhausting day out on Old Ghost and being able to put your bikes down and be in a fantastic lodge, have a shower in the awesome outdoor shower, eat a hearty meal and talk about your ride before hitting the hay in the comfortable and warm suites. Wake up the next morning still in paradise and have a coffee next to the serene river.Staff are super lovely and helpful. Best accomodation for the end of your adventure. You gotta do it!

Lodge is very cozy, nicely decorated and well kept. Also ideally located for relaxing after the old ghost road. Food was also excellent, reminded me of a nice home cooked meal. Not only that but the owner was the main person leading the build of old Ghost Road!

Rough and Tumble Bush Lodge and Cafe
Came in for a hot shower (included in my vehicle transport) after finishing the OGR today. The facility is beautiful (amazing shower) and TWO of the employees were very pleasant, however the third (an older, gray-haired woman) was so unpleasant as to make me wish I never came in. My wife and I were made to feel like we were bothering her by even asking for a towel. I’d MAYBE understand if we were random vagabonds walking in from the street asking for something for free, but the shower is a service offered to us by a local company that they work with. Even after buying 4 beers and 2 pies, we were still meant to feel unwelcome, so we left. As a fellow hospitality worker, I’d recommend they either reconsider offering the service (if it is an inconvenience to the workers) or to hire/retain only workers that actually want to be there. I can’t think of any other way to say this.

Rough and Tumble Bush Lodge and Cafe
We stayed here after riding the Old Ghost Road and it was definitely worth it. Good value for money. Amazing, beautifully decorated lodge. Clean, tidy and the option of a great bush shower. The food is delicious. Staff and wonderful and warm and welcoming. Best place I've stayed at for a long time!

Rough and Tumble Bush Lodge and Cafe
We stayed at the Rough and Tumble Lodge on 14/05/2022 after mountain biking the Old Ghost Road Trail with 9 others. The bridge in and out of the lodge was washed out due to the phenomenal amount of rain received over a 12 hour period. We were supposed to stay back in Mokhinui however we couldn't get back to our accommodation at Gentle Annie due to the only access being impossible to cross. The two ladies at Rough and Tumble lodge took all 10 of us grubby, tired and stressed men in and fed us, gave us fresh clean clothing, drinks, desert and a clean bed each - all with zero notice. The service was absolutely amazing from the two ladies - I wish I could remember their names - they deserve a massive bonus for their outstanding service. The ladies contacted, liased with, and as far as I'm aware, arranged for the road to be repaired very quickly - it was done by midday the following day, which was outstanding in itself from the excavator operator - the damaged road must have been about 20m long by 10m wide and 4m deep - that's a lot of fill. The outdoor shower, the lodge itself, the beds are super comfortable. We will 100% be coming back for our fourth time through here, cant recommend it enough. Cheers Team!
