Pros: AMAZING location! Staff are super friendly and helpful! The balcony is stunning!Cons: The room I was in was tiny and crammed full of people and girls had their stuff all over the floor cause their was very limited storage. Also I have stayed in 100s of hostels around the world and never stayed somewhere that didn't have any way of locking your stuff up. The girls in my room seemed nice but every time I came back to my room the door was wide open with no one in it and none of our stuff was locked. I felt constant anxiety about my stuff being stolen so I carried around all my expensive things with me my entire stay. Also their is no privacy curtains so it feels like a summer camp.I don't think I would recommend this place to any solo travelers like myself but if you are in a group it would be perfect!

Great hostel, staff, and location. The balcony by the kitchen has stunning views, and there are ensuite bathrooms. You will need to find your own parking though. Will definitely come back if I'm the area again!

We had a huge family gathering and occupied the Moana Suite. It was absolutely perfect. Couldnt fault the location, facilities, staff and facilities. If I wanted a place to get together again it would be my absolute go to. I cant thank them enough.

Very nice and helpful staff, were very accommodating to a later check in, the facilities were nice, rooms were a nice size, however my car was vandalized on the street causing hundreds of dollars worth of damage, so would not recommend staying if you have a car.Edit because I am unable to respond to the owner's response:Parking options communicated in check in instructions-Free parking in Tauranga 6pm until 9am anywhere in town.Free parking in Tauranga on Sundays and public holidays .On street parking area apply 8am – 6pm Monday to Saturday - $1.00 forthe first two hours and $5.00 per hour for the subsequent hoursLarge car park across the road on the waterfront, $10 per car per dayor ask reception for free parking options available in town.I asked reception for help as I arrived and the person stated they didn't know where I should park so I chose on street parking very close to the hostel in what looked like a safe area. My review again does not reflect my stay at the actual hostel, but it is important to consider the area when deciding to stay somewhere in the future.

Awesome hostel, highly recommend it. We stayed more than two months in a long termer room, with better rates.Beautiful views, great facilities and really nice staff. In front of the sea and close to the bus stop. Great staff and good location, but really noisy and was not able to have a good night of sleep, even though I was staying on a suite room by myself. There is a venue located right by the Wanderlust that had loud music playing till late and you can hear other guests coming back from their night off, using their bathroom etc.. the walls are really thin. Maybe it was specially hard because I stayed there on a Friday night and I was at Tauranga for work. Lack of proper cleaning was also an issue.. would not recommend for an adult that is looking for a quite and relaxing place.

We loved the location - right on the sea front with amazing views. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The shared kitchens and lounges were lovely and bright.We were disappointed that our key didn't work in the kitchen door. We also didn't like the very loud music on Sat night from nearby bars that went on till around midnight.

I stayed in Wanderlust NZ both as short and long-termer and it was great, had heaps of fun and met beautiful people. There's a fairly helpful board with job offers and you can do exchange work in the hostel, although I'd keep in mind that weekly rates are quite expensive. The hostel is clean (although people often do not dry their dishes which should be insisted upon when checking in or enforced), quite safe and has plenty of room to hang out, however it can be noisy sometimes specially on the third floor because of the surrounding pubs. The staff is specially helpful and lovely, they're all approachable and willing to help if you're polite and reasonable. Davide is a bit crazy but friendly. Also don't forget to label your food!

Wanderlust Hostel is conveniently located on The Strand on the Tauranga waterfront. It is well designed, especially the communal areas. The top level gives great views over the waterfront and harbour. The service was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful. Very good value too. My only negative is that because of its location, it gets very noisy at night in and around the weekend, so be prepared. Other than that, it was a nice place to stay.

Best Hostel in New Zeland!I am already traveling since more than 9 months but I have never seen a hostel with this kind of high standards! Very friendly staff, total clean bathrooms, 2 kitchens on 2 floors and also a rooftop terrace.Almost all rooms are located to the seas side, so you always get a nice sea view!
