Nice but note that you can only see in through some small windows or little viewing areas. You can’t walk around inside. It’s difficult to see through the glass because of the reflection.

28 September 2020: WOW what an amazing piece of history! Incredible to think how this family lived for 10years in the wilderness. Well done to Historic Places Trust to keep treasures such as these for all NZ’ers and international travellers to see.

This historic slab cottage is worth visiting. There's a brief history on the sign at the gate. It's a very brief detour from the state highway and clearly sign posted. It's on the flat so there are no access problems. Open the front door and back door to look through the perspex windows and see the interiors. It's in very original condition.

Easy access. Lovely rural outlook. Well worth visiting as it really shows how the first settlers of Rai Valley lived.
