Gretna Hotel Taihape
Great location and staff. For the cheap price the room was really good! Everything was really clean and tidy for an older hotel. We were pleasantly surprised and would definitely stay again. Pub grub yummy, the garlic mash was so creamy and tasty. I could have just had a plate of that.

A real old cultural classic. The linen is spotless. Shared bathrooms are clean as are the rooms. The locals very friendly. But you dont stay here for the facilities.. not cute, not that comfy. Real basic. 3 stars for trying.

This hotel is an old fashioned kiwi pub.The single room was clean and tidy. Heater was in the room certainly required. Toilet and bathroom down the hall. Hot water took forever to come through.The attached bar and restaurant was great. Friendly locals, great staff, roaring fire and very large meals.Definitely I would stay here again

Gretna Hotel Taihape
The worst place on Earth. I called to book a room and I clearly stated that I would reach at 10:30pm and they told me it was okay and to call on arrival so that someone would open me. I called and no one answered, I kept calling for like 10 times but still no answer. They went to sleep and left me out in the middle of the night in a small village where there were no other options since it was all fully booked. What a bad place, they cannot even keep their word. I highly not recommend you to book here because they could leave you out with no notice and you need to sleep in the street. Moreover, from outside it looks like an horror movie place with all the windows open, I would have even be scared to sleep there so maybe better that I slept in my car.

The staff here are amazing and super friendly. The locals in the bar were a great bunch of people. The food was incredible! I have literally never seen a steak that big before anywhere I have eaten. Definitely looking forward to my next visit.
