Tongariro National Park Visitor Centre

Make sure you pay a visit here before you do any hiking in the national park. They give great advise about the tracks and what to bring. And a good place to find history and information about the park and about volcanoes.

Beautiful park located at the foot of grand Mt Ruapehu. It has exceptional views and near by waterfalls and so great walks.

Multiple options for hiking. We did a 3 hour walk that included seeing the waterfall! Gorgeous! Awesome visitor center. Highly recommend!!

Great visitor center, very helpful and informative staff! Also a great spot to start! There a few hikes, 15 min, 40 min, 1.5 hours etc and all start in the area. There is also a small store close by an many bathrooms. Great for a day hike or a place a a family stop. The center has exibits and a topographic map of the trails.

Very disappointed as it was shut for lunch. What visitor centre shuts for lunch in a tourist area on a weekend? The printed sign implied it was not unusual for this to happen. Was very much looking forward to a quick visit and couldn't hang around to wait for it to open. Also, the toilets across the road need a deep clean please. Check the backs of the doors after you shut them. They need a decent scrub. Not a good look at such a busy place.

Ruggedly beautiful and worth every step of the hike. Expect rapidly changing weather and brace yourself against the winds!

On a rainy day when the mountain is closed you can come here to spend some time. Unlike the other information centres, in the Tongariro Visitor Centre you can look at some awesome exhibitions. The staff here have a wealth of knowledge

Great little place full of interesting information about the area,has a cinema explaining things about the volcano fantastic. The gifts shop is very small not alot to offer. The silica rapids walk is a nice easy walk and great views

This is a very cool visitor and information center. The staff are very knowledgeable and keen to assist. As with most iSite centres there are some really cool gifts, but also very good interactive displays and information about the areas history, geology, and ecosystem(s).
