On the Write a Novel course, my writing improved in leaps and bounds in ways that would have been impossible on my own. Feedback was a mix of kindness and encouragement and brutal honesty, all in careful balance. I'm very grateful I found this course and recommend it for anyone else with dreams of writing a novel.

I am rating 5 stars because the food was amazing. If you ever go to Mt Roskill Grammar School, ask for the panini with curry and italian foe grais spaghetti lai mien with mcdonalds sweet and sour sauce. In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends. Last Lunch, I experienced something new: an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Mt Roskill Grammar School's famous motto, To the Heights" But I realize

Enrolling in a course with The Writers College was the best thing I did in 2021. It has given me a real boost of confidence. Professional and friendly with excellent tutoring, I found the whole experience richly rewarding. I intend to enrol in more courses, and without hesitation, I would wholeheartedly recommend this college to others.

The community education hosted by the mt roskill grammar school is great. Plenty of subjects are on offer for a reasonable fee. Parking also amply available, though navigating the compound is very challenging and can easily get lost.

Mount Albert Grammar School
If you're starting at Mount Albert Grammar, make the most of every moment. Not only so valuable lessons in terms of knowledge and academic subjects but life lessons as well. So many opportunities available as well as support from staff. When you're told ''join a club'' or ''contribute with some form of service'' I highly recommend you do. Even one or two things will make all the difference in school life. Put in as much effort as you can and the school will do the same in return. In these important crucial years, I couldn't think of a place I'd rather have been at.

I highly recommend The Write a Novel course with the NZ Writers College. The assignments are practical, and along with the feedback from my tutor, Sonny Whitelaw, they helped me transform my writing style. Sonny was brilliant - loved her perceptive feedback, her humour, and her practical tips on how to strengthen my plotting.
