I love this place! Its so worth a visit. Third time for me over last 15 or so years. The rocks, the landscape and bush. A real gem.

This was interesting! A walk on the wild side amongst the the natural wonders of the Wairere Boulders. Something for the to partake in finding the fairy houses. A couple of different routes to explore for young and old alike. Lovely day, our group thoroughly enjoyed themselved and the experience.

I wasn’t expecting much when we turned off to visit the Wairere boulders. I was totally blown away by what a beautiful little spot this is. The walk is great, some steps and uneven ground but the kids enjoyed how exciting it was seeing lots of chasms and fairy houses along the way. Would definitely recommend as a place to stop in the far north.

a hidden gem. reasonably priced for a family activity. kids loved exploring all the rocks. they loved hunting for the fairy houses. we camped the night. the driveway down to the camp ground is quite steep but our 4wd pulled the caravan out ok. not sure how you would get pm with a bigger vehicle? may have to camp in the top car park. facilities were clean. it was a quietly located camp that is dog friendly. no dogs allowed on the Rock walk. we left ours tied up at the caravan. would be fun to make use of the swimming hole. it was winter and in flood when we were there.

Loved staying overnight at Wairere Boulders Campsite. The boulders, bush & stream are beautiful to walk around. We camped in the neighbouring paddock. You can have a motorhome on a gravel patch or tents on the grass. The farmer is lovely to talk to. I could listen to his accent all day. We enjoyed the cycle trail. Rode from Horeke to Okaihau return. Beautiful scenery through farmland.

Incredibly beautiful place, so underrated too! So much variety of walks, charming details and beautiful scenery, and the kayak trip is the best we've ever been on! Everything is well maintained and the owners and really friendly. Highly recommend staying the night at the B&B or just coming for the day - this'll be a highlight of your trip!

If you enjoy clambering over and through rocks this is a cool activity. We liked seeing the different grooves formed in the rocks and the sheer scale of the volcanic eruption is evident with the size of the massive boulders. Good info in the shed at the start of the track where we borrowed the available walking sticks. Once again we are always grateful to be able to access things on private land and that the tracks are maintained but I think the $15 adult charge is a little expensive. Maybe $10 and would be nice for all ages of kids to experience things like this for free
