Pike River Memorial
If you are in the area, a visit to the memorial is worth while. As you take a moment to read over the information on display and the tributes to those 29 workers that tragically never made it home, the news stories all of a sudden feel a lot closer to home.The sound of the river trickling along with the view of the hills in the background really is very sobering.It was a very moving experience that will stay with me for a long time - may those that lost their lives Rest In Peace.

Pike River Memorial
I appreciate the fact that the memorial is welcoming to anyone, sometimes I feel a bit wary of intruding upon other's place of grieving. It was a privilege to be able to acknowledge the men that died in this mining accident and my thoughts are with the families and friends involved. The Pike River Coal disaster is a sad part of New Zealand history that should never have happened. It was reassuring to see the visitor book(s) have interested folk like myself that have come by to pay their respects and to also see messages of support left by folk from outside NZ.

Very moving place. Wanted to come here and lay a peoni since hearing about it. Very sad and very beautiful in a memorial way. But have to say one of the best family remembered way I have seen since we have started our journey.

It is a good idea to stop and take a moment and reflect on the lives that were lost. A beautiful memorial dedicated to Fathers, sons and brothers. It does bring a tear to the eye

Pike River Memorial
This is the first time I've seen the memorial of the men that gave their lives at Pike river. It was a great way to remember these men and the way it was laid out was a credit to the family and one the men would be proud of. If you get the chance to visit and pay your respects to these men and their families please take it.
