What a hidden gem and a delightful surprise. Joined friend's for aNew Year's day lunch and so glad we chose Pataka Kai as the venue. We were greeted with a warm friendly welcome, the atmosphere was inviting and cool on a hot summer's day, with great natural ventilation/ breeze blowing through the restaurant. (Helping to keep us safe during Covid). The show stopper was the buffet. Freshly prepared and beautifully presented food. A good selection of food to suit most tastes , and totally changed my perception of a Hangi Buffet. The food was tasty, had flair and healthy and modern. The views were stunning, and the overall experience was 10 out 10. The whole team should be proud of what they have delivered. Great staff great atmosphere and amazing value for money. Well done! A memorable experience

Came here for a lunch with 3 others. Buffet lunch was quite nice, medium sized selection of food (although less than other buffet places I have been to). We enjoyed the buttermilk fried chicken, the pork ribs, lamb and the sweet chilli pineapple prawn dish. Food is also topped up regularly so dishes are rarely empty. We were also able to try some hāngi cooked meats. However, no dishes really stood out as super delicious or outstanding/one-of-a-kind. Waiters and service is also very good. You will have more than enough to eat. Overall, quite comfortable experience, come if you can afford and want to try the hāngi cooked meats special to New Zealand.

Fantastic Kai, seriously I can’t fault it. The Bar Snacks are incredible value for money. The Sunday brunch was delicious, even for vegetarians, and the views from the balcony are perfect. It’s got real vibes of Kyoto about it, and reminds me of the Ammo bar in Hong Kong. Came for breakfast stayed for lunch and tempted to come back for dinner tonight.

What more can l say apart from Par Excellent". What a wonderful way to spend a celebration of any kind . We went there for Sunday Brunch . The view from the dining area is nothing less then spectacular over looking Pohutu Geyser. The food is amazing . Well worth the money we spent . Buffet style served at the table. We were a party of eight. All good eaters and still had to ask for containers to take the left overs home in .Such a variety. Every taste catered for . Cant wait to go again .Its even worth the journey from Upper Hutt just to go there . Thank you so much Chrissie and Jasmine Adam's for recommending Pataka Kai"
