I was very wary to undertake a hair transplant, but after meeting almost every Dr in Auckland Dr Wong seemed the best and the best value. He kindly put me in touch with a former patient who talked me through his experience and addressed all of my fears.I am only a few days after the operation but i have to say that I am delighted with my choice. Dr Wong was incredibly professional and made the procedure enjoyable. His guidance in the lead up to the day was helpful and comforting and the day itself was actually enjoyable! It is clear that Dr Wong is focused on perfection and continual improvement in everything that he does. The theatre was impressive and well managed and the process painless. The follow up has been regular and comforting and I am delighted with the results. If you are looking for a hair transplant in NZ i would strongly recommend these guys.

I had a hair transplant with NZ Hair Institute 2 months ago and I am very happy with the experience. As a first step I had a consultation with Dr Wong via video call. In the consultation he assessed my current hair situation, talked about alternative options to having a hair transplant, and also talked about the hair transplantation process should I choose to proceed. He also sent a prescription to my local pharmacy for hair loss medication. He emailed me a summary of our discussion, and attached extensive information about preparing for a transplant, the transplant itself, and post-operative care.It took me a few weeks to gather the courage to book and pay for the hair transplant. I was worried about the transplant process being painful and/or unpleasant. I was worried about being churned through the system as quickly as possible and then forgotten. I was worried it would be painful afterwards. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to sleep for days afterwards (nothing can touch the new hairs for 7-10 days, and I usually sleep on my stomach, so the pillow would touch the new hair area). All of these worries turned out to be completely unfounded. The worst part of the whole process was the worrying itself.I flew to Auckland one day before the transplant to have a pre-op consultation with Dr Wong. He was very friendly, an excellent communicator, and clearly passionate about his work.I awoke at 5:30am the next morning, had a light breakfast as instructed, and arrived at the surgery at 6:30am. I was given some pills and a cup of water (Dr Wong told me what each one was and why I was taking it), and I changed into the “surgical pajamas” in a private room. I was lightly sedated, and found that the transplant passed quickly in a pleasant blur. The only pain was the brief sting of local anesthetic at the beginning. I was very comfortable, with pillows placed under my body in strategic locations, and a warm blanket over me.After the transplant I changed back into my own clothes, and Dr Wong walked me over to the serviced apartment where I was staying next door. I got into bed, propped myself upright on several pillows, and had a nice nap. I took 2 panadeine tablets that afternoon. Dr Wong phoned me a little later to check on me. I slept okay that night, with no pain. The next morning I saw Dr Wong at 9am for a checkup and to go over the post-operative care instructions. Then I put on a blue surgical cap to cover the new hair area, and caught an Uber to the airport. I did not get any questions from fellow passengers, nor the airport staff.Other than some light pain a few hours after the transplant, I experienced no pain in the days after the transplant.

I flew up to Auckland for a hair transplant around 2022 and at the time of writing about a year has passed. Here's what I would like to know from a past patient.Team and Facilities- The team was extremely kind, intelligent and very pleasant to be around, an absolutely fantastic experience.- Excellent facilities, clean, modern and well maintained.- I asked many dumb questions and everyone was always very understanding and pleasant to be around.Results- I had 700 follicles moved from the back of my head to the front to deal with an extreme widow's peak. Looked the McDonald Arches before surgery. Since then with a year of growth I can say I could not be happier with the results. Like everyone I've talked to, my only regret was not getting the transplant earlier.- When looking close in the mirror the area that received the transplant does look thinner than the rest of my hair. However, and this is the important part, it does not look like my hair is thinning or balding even at close inspection. Thinner yes but not thin, more importantly that from any view(besides being close enough to lick my skull) the transplant looks natural and seamless. I could not be happier with the resultsFlying up- I do not live in Auckland but instead flew up so I could get my transplant done here as it seemed the best option and I'm glad I did.-I flew up the day before and stayed in a hotel nearby(there were lots of good options) as the surgery for me started very early.- I did need to stay in town for three days if I recall for recovery and check ins and after that was able to get back to my normal routine.-The whole process took around one weekend and a day. In terms of gains to long term happiness one of the best weekends I spentThe Surgery- The surgery for me started early and lasted many hours with two of the very nice surgeons working on the transplant.- It was painless so no need to worry- It does involve lying down on your stomach and then back for hours at a time, I got quite uncomfortable as I didn't want to interrupt by asking to stand or sit up. Do not make this mistake and be overly polite, do better than me and if you need to sit up to give your back or stomach a rest I say do so.- I was awake for the procedure and chatted with the team and we all listened to music together. It was nice but if you'd like to listen to a podcast, audio book or other such I suspect that would be no issue. I didn't ask because I didn't want to seem rude which was also a mistake. Again the team is very nice and understanding.Recovery- You will get full information from the team on this but this is what my flawed memory recalls as most noteworthy.-After the surgery the new hairs will need several days to heal and are at risk of being damaged or removed if you are careless.-To this end for the first I believe it was three days you will need to sleep sitting up which is about as comfortable as it sounds.- I did not sleep well but I still consider this to have been well worth it.- There was no pain during my recovery so you need not worry.- I slept sitting up for about a week just to be absolutely sure everything was healed and no hair would be lost. That was likely over kill by a large margin, but I did not lose any of my transplanted hair and would likely do the same again if I were to do so in the future. I'm not a doctor so do please listen to the team over me but if you are a careful/neurotic person like me it's worth keeping in mind you will likely do the same and so would need to factor in more nights of bad sleep for that first week after surgery- After that everything healed up a treat. The recovery was quick with no pain and only those few nights of bad sleep to note right after the surgery.-Overall do not worry about the recovery it's barely an inconvenience. Really a cold/flu or especially bad hangover is far more trouble than recovery.Overall-Fantastic start to finish

From the first moment I walked into the clinic and meet Dr Wong I was treated professionally and felt very comfortable, Dr Wong explained everything from hair-loss medication and hair transplant procedure . Every detail of the surgery was explained to me and if I had any questions, everything was clearly detailed. I couldn’t have been treated any better. On Surgery day the day started early, I was made very comfortable, and given medication.Every step was explained, as I went through the procedure by Dr Wong and Dr Doo, they made the whole experience fantastic. It took about 8 hours but seemed like 4 hours with the help of medication and good yarns. Now looking forward to the end result .
