This the only upholsterer that would take my motorcycle seat to get recovered. What a mission. Thanks Stu.

Do not take Stuart, (the owner), on his word. He is a Sheep dressed in Wolves clothing.I was quoted $2000 and 8 hours Labour to replace soft top on convertible.I supplied better quality soft top, (that Stu was involved of the decision process of), which cost $1000 from abroad.I expected to just pay 8 hours labour, or 10-15% more of quoted labour hours as per consumer guarantees act. The job was to take 1 week as we only had two cars for two shift working people, this was doable.6 weeks later the job still was not completed. He then asked if I could bring it back after Christmas, (it was early Nov). After sacrificing for 6 weeks without a vehicle I said no.Almost 2 months after being dropped in, (not in reasonable time), it was ‘ready’ to be collected.Instead of 8 hours labour, I was charged 32.5 hours.$2000 became $4350 with labour, roof, and other unjustified add ons. He never sought permission from me to blow the quoted budget, and he also doesn’t practice the legal requirement of highlighting GST exclusive in his quotes.Stuart could’ve told me the job was too hard for him to do efficiently, and potentially in my best financial interests advise me to go elsewhere. That would’ve given me a big picture idea of where the price was heading, and offered me my legal right to end the work at Stu’s Sound and Trim. Selfishly and illegally I was not given that option.I get the car home and the roof leaks within hours, as he hasn’t aligned it properly. The drivers seat is drenched.Friday before Sth island road trip that we prepared the car for, (the sole purpose of fixing the roof 2 months earlier), the back window rips open as is incorrectly installed, fills with water and isn’t secure regarding break ins.He is informed about both issues and blows me off, no offer to bring car in and rectify issues. Get to South Island and arm of convertible snaps that I paid him to fix as part of the job.Our 1 month summer convertible road trip now becomes ‘roof up’ with a hole in the back.I order replacement parts in myself, and paid upholster in South Island, after the road trip, who did an amazing job for the fraction of the price. I left the car there and flew from auckland to drive it back a month later when I had free time. The South Island upholsterer was totally blown away at the price I was charged and the unnecessary labour costs and the poor quality of previous work, due to huge tension on roof and frame. The disputes tribunal says his work is not of merchantable quality, but dismissed case as Stu lied and said he’d called me, with no answer, to ask me for permission to do extra work. Not true. No emails or texts from him either seeking permission.I could have rehearing and subpoena his phone records & match up with my time overseas-to prove his lie, but do not want anymore negativity as you can’t win against a lier, when time and good positive vibes are important, it’s only money and not worth the stress it will cause.Stu is extremely calculating, sly and untrustworthy. At no point did he offer to rectify any problems or even taken responsibility on himself. He says that Robins NZ endorses him as an installer, that may be so, but I haven’t passed on my concerns to them, so it is a totally irrelevant claim. He comes across as a salt of the earth kinda guy which is why I chose him, and the excessive commute from Grey Lynn to Manuaku, because I rated him as a person and high hopes of his abilities to do a good job and stay within the consumer protection laws of NZ. I also intended on taking my boat to him for some repairs... it’s safe to say that will never happen.I feel totally ripped off and betrayed, even after all this time.I am writing this so potential clients are ‘eyes wide open’ in regards to disappointment, and to inform you get all quotes in writing, and remain in contact with him.I also am trying to find closure on the anger I still possess towards him for taking complete advantage of my trusting nature.Avoid over spending, poor quality workmanship, no after service. Go elsewhere
