$8 a piece for smaller than a quarter scallops, and the gluten free, dairy free option meant they just removed parts of the dish. They couldn't be bothered to cut up the lettuce in a salad. Food tasted okay but way overpriced for what you get.

Disappointing all round. Staff were friendly but not at all knowledgeable about the food. The food itself, where to start.... definitely not done by a chef with any training. Just very ho hum

This should have been a pleasant night out at a smart restaurant. It wasn't. When we arrived the crowd noise could be heard one floor down and along the passageway. The problem is their bar is open to the restaurant and on this particular night a group of around 25 were going at it like they were at an after-match function at the Black Stump Pub.We struggled to enjoy our meal and were happy to leave as soon as we could. On the way out, I asked if the noise was like this every night. I was told 'No, just every Friday. The shareholders gather for a drink'! I was stunned...This goes on our list of 10 worst dining experiences ever. It you come here, avoid Friday nights!

My wife & I and another couple dined at Oceanview Restaurant last Saturday evening 18 February at 7:30pm. The restaurant was full but we had booked. We were the only table that decided to dine outside and sat at the table with the best view of the ocean and the sunset on a beautiful evening in Hokitika. However our evening was made less enjoyable by the standard of the meal. Particularly my friends meal. Instead of ordering a Main course he chose to order two entrees: the whitebait & the scallops. When his entrees arrived we were all astounded. The scallop entrée consisted of four of the smallest scallops I’ve ever seen on an entree plate accompanied by 3 x potatoe wedges & some sort of sauce on each of the minute scallops. Cost of that entree was $36 ($9 per scallop) His whitebait entree was only slightly better. My friend as expected was too polite to complain. At least the two ladies Fish Special Hoki dish was not bad as was my pork belly (although it was drowning in a bowl full of gravy). We spent over $250 that night and did expect better. Suggest Oceanview need to seriously review their scallop entree content and price.Again the view from our table was spectacular on a beautiful summer’s night.

Food was meh. We ordered scallops, surf and turf and salmon for dinner and to be honest, the salmon dish was the only saving grace. Total meal was $114 and it was totally not worth

Went for dinner. Not happy at all. Our dinner were not hot and the prawn on the turn n surf was like rubber. The desserts were also a let down for the price we paid. The wait staff never came by to see how our meals were, nor did they come by to offer any more drinks. Went last year and was happy, this time not so much.

One of the best experiences I have had in NZ.Food was delicious, tender, right temperature and good timing. Not agree with others saying it's overpriced. For 2 entries, 2 mains, desert and a bottle of wine we paid 150! More then acceptable in my opinion. All staff were very friendly, attentive and swift. Will highly recommend to all my friends.

Disappointing foodOrdered ribeye steak as medium rare and came out as blue, cold in the middle of the steak and mushroom sauce wasn’t hot at all. Also ordered $33.50 scallops, for that much money, i would expected to get really good quality food but 4 overcooked frozen pack scallops came out with tasteless purée and some burnt pear. All the food that i ordered were well over priced.Had to get a food from food truck afterwards and they were amazing.

Serendipitously dropped by here for dinner as the other place we had intended to go was full. The food was good - lamb had no gamey smell, and the meat and seafood platters were plenty for sharing, at a very reasonable price. We definitely expected to pay more because it was a hotel’s restaurant, but ended up paying less than we did in other restaurants during our trip. The service staff were also very friendly and attentive to our needs. Great experience overall!

Incredibly disappointing food. 4 of us thought we would go out for breakfast as something different. What a waste of time and money. We were the only ones there. Couldn’t have a coffee as someone wasn’t there to operate the machine. Ended up having to help ourselves to the juices in the breakfast area which we all had 1 tiny glass and got charged $5 for the pleasure - they were too tired to bring us a proper juice in a decent glass. The eggs Benedict, the hollandaise sauce was white and had no flavour, eggs were over cooked, salmon had come out of a supermarket packet and had a weird combination of broccoli and cooked potato - using up last nights left overs? We would have been better off making it ourselves at home and not spending $118!!
