Tawhai Falls (Gollums Pool)

We arrived closer to 5:30pm and started to lose daylight. Car park appears to fit <6 cars. No toilet nearby of course and a quick stroll with some built in steps down to the broom if the fall. We didn’t get much peace here with other budding photographers but worth dropping in if your a LOTR movie fan or not

Easy access with about 50 steps and less than ten minute walk each way. To get up to the pool itself there is a little bit of a scramble over rocks but still very easy to get to.

Lovely gentle 15-20 minute return walk with multiple stunning views of mountains and the falls.

Its a short walk down several stairs (not wheelchair accessible) down to the falls. We were fortunate enough to be completely alone and its really a beautiful and humbling sight. For any LOTR lovers, its 100% worth the stop.

This was a stunning experience! The whole Tongiriro National Park was under a huge dark grey cloud and fog everywhere! The walk is short to the waterfall and has good points to take pictures!

Tawhai Falls (Gollum's Pool) is a beautiful waterfall in Tongariro National Park, famous for being the location of the forbidden pool scene in Lord of the Rings. The walk to the waterfall is very short and easy, only 15 minutes from the car park. The track is well-formed and has some stairs to go up and down.The waterfall is stunning, with clear blue water and a rocky backdrop. You can view it from the top or scramble down to the bottom for a closer look. The pool is deep enough for swimming, but very cold. You might feel like Gollum fishing for fish, or Frodo and Faramir watching him.Tawhai Falls (Gollum's Pool) is a must-see attraction for any Lord of the Rings fan or nature lover. It's a great way to enjoy the beauty and diversity of Tongariro National Park. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have a memorable experience in Middle Earth.

Excellent bush walk on sealed path approx 10min one way. A couple of staircases but well worth it. Beautiful scenic views of a water fall. This isn't the biggest waterfall around but does make up for it in beauty. Good family walk but wouldn't recommend prams due to stairs. Good amount of roadside parking.

My precious, we loves Tawhai Falls! Paths so neat and tidy, parking easy, and signs guiding us, yesss! All perfect for our sneaky, precious adventures. We gives it five shiny stars, precious!

This time we visited this fall during winter. With so much rain, the volume of water was incredibly awesome. The tracks are not muddy at all. The tracks are well maintained during the rainy season. The waterfall was amazing. There were a lot of people visiting this fall when we went. You won't be disappointed, even if you are not a fan of The Lord of the Ring franchise.

This is one of the best falls in one of the secluded places in New Zealand. It is located 4 Kms before the town when you are heading towards the Mount Ruapehu. About 10 minutes of walk all you need to reach to this beautiful fall.
