What a neat place in Kawakawa, you must go and see this fabulous building, the artwork is great, a pleasure to use the toilets, spotlessly clean too

You should “go” here. Going here is cooler than going in other toilets. Seriously this is a beautiful toilet. The tile work is amazing. Loved the multiple sized urinals!

Some amazing - it has all the classic Hundertwasser traits! Uneven floor, mad tiles, open roof with tree! Love it. Oh - also functions as a toilet

If you love colors and patterns, if you love fun, curving wavelike shapes, if you have a sense of whimsy and can appreciate things that are out of the ordinary, you will love this place. In fact these are likely to be the most outstandingly unforgettable toilets you will ever visit. If you don’t find on-street parking nearby, you can pull in just beyond the park past the toilets and park behind the Hundertwasser Center and public library.I’d visited Hundertwasser sites in Austria, and I’d never realized he spent so much time in New Zealand during the last 30 years of his life. So cool!

Wonderful views with places to swim. Under 3km long. Return option is best on same track as the road is busy (but shorter/quicker). Although stated as “closed” due to March slip, it is easily passable as it has dried out and many have walked across “remaking” track

This is clearly a tourist attraction but still primarily functional as a public toilet. I was greeted by a lovely smiling wahine whose job it was to clean. She does a fabulous job as everything is well kept and rare as it is these loos smell rather nice as well. They have become our regular stop whenever we travel to the far north now as this level of cleanliness is very consistent. Have never found a negative.

Hundertwasser as you are used to it. If you happen to be in the area, make that detour to the toilets. To the right is a small museum in his honour.

The unique design, combined with nearby memorials and souvenir shops, forms a small art district. It's a must-see on my road trip to the North Island.

After learning about Hundertwasser and his work when visiting the Art Centre in Whangarei, I had to make a stop at the Public Toilets when going past to take a look. Very unique and Hundertwssser design throughout. Looks like it's cleaned regularly also, which is a bonus. In the main road, hard to miss!

I mean, they're toilets. I get that art is subjective and stuff, but it's basically just a big sand castle. I mean, it's cool, it's innovative, and it probably reduced the amount of waste in the area (the windows are made of recycled bottles, and it's awesome), but I hope the commission (I don't know if he was paid for the job, google just asked for a review) wasn't too high for the artist, as a bunch of children, let loose with the right materials, could achieve the same outcome. So, as I said, art is subjective, and they are toilets.I also want to reiterate, that I'm not giving four stars on the quality of toilets, it is the subjectivity of the artistic value of the piece. The toilets serve their purpose
