Well maintained park. Birds everywhere, the walk along the river towards the waterfall is pretty and gentle. The waterfall isn’t anything special but the area is lovely. We thought it would be good to try and dingy back down. Didn’t work particularly well but would be nice to hang by one of the deep parts for the day.

Lovely hour and a half walk along the riverside. Path can get quite muddy tho. Waterfall is pretty small. But the highlight is definitely the rocky hill tops. Be careful to not leave valuables in cars. Saw a car that had its rear window smashed.

We stayed here for a night, camping in a tent. It was full without being too full. There were some local youths listening to music from their car, eyeballing everyone who drove in. The toilets weren't great, but they did the job. Beautiful place though, with a nice spot by the water. The train rolls through the valley late.

The map pin is in the wrong place - see Mangaokewa Reserve. Not a bad place to stop for the night. Plenty of space to park. Two toilets with cold running water. Need a really good clean.

As others have said, it appears that this reserve once accommodated happy travelers and campers as well as being a nice hiking track. Bridge to trail is now closed, and gates have opening and closing times. Seems like this is a (locals only) hang out spot. Reservation sits under a mountain so it can get quiet cold in the early hours of the morning here in winter. Best enjoyed during the later hours of the day id say. Gave it 3 stars as it's a nice little stop for anyone passing by on their roadie. Otherwise, it could have been a 4 stars or 5 if we could have experienced the walking track beyond the bridge.

A beautiful place, great bush walk to a small waterfall. No rubbish bins. So take your rubbish away with you. Very peaceful.
