Peters Pool
A tiny calm lake within a short easy walking distance, the reflection of the mountains is stunning even though on a cloudy day.Worth to visit for sure

This lovely almost level walk on a gravel path through the woods took us 30 minutes return, and that included 5 minutes at the pool shooting the reflections. There aren’t views of the Franz Josef Glacier from the pool, but you can catch some nice distant ones from the parking lot.

It is an easy walk, 25 min return. On a sunny day, you can see the reflection of Franz Josef.

Turned this picture upside down!A true mirror lake, but quite small. Worth going to on a non rainy day.

The shortest walk around here from the car park. You can finish it in 10 mins if you walk fast. The glacier is not that clear from here but it’s a different view.

Small calm pool, great for a photo and not too far from the carpark. Super easy stroll if you want to check it out

Absolutely stunning! We got there around 10 AM and expected it to be ripply by then, but in fact it was perfectly still and mirror-like. It’s a pretty easy walk there and back from the Franz Josef Glacier Car Park, but it’s definitely worth doing the full Douglas Walk/Te Ara A Waiau Walkway loop track if you have time.

This short walk to Peters Pool starts at the main Franz Josef car park. Itwinds through the rainforest to a small kettle lake, which was formed by ice melting amongst a glacial moraine.Kettles are depressions left behind after partially-buried ice blocks melt. Many are filled with water, and are then called kettle lakes".It should take around 25 minutes return."

An amazing place to stop along the trail for some amazing photos of the mountains in this flat and reflective pool! It’s only about 20 minutes hike out to the pool from the parking area at the start of the trail, and it is very much worth the easy hike there to get some amazing photos! There were several people there at the pool when we arrived who were very friendly, and we ended up taking photos of each other as couples or groups.A place that you must visit when you are in the Franz Josef area, especially if you want some amazing travel photos!
