Beautiful gallery and location. As an artist, I would love to exhibit my work in this space some day. Great lighting. Friendly staff. Easy to get around. Accessible. Loved the art on display.

The Suter Art Gallery is on my list of top 5 places to visit in Nelson! The staff are very friendly and while we were looking at “Fire & Earth: Contemporary Ceramics from the Top of the South” we were informed about the works and their makers by very knowledgeable volunteers. An excellent cafe spills into the Chinese Garden and there is a short circuit walk with information about the types of trees growing in the garden and some lovely sculptures along the way. The gallery has a well-stocked gift shop and an area for browsing art magazine. It’s free to visit but donations are welcome, and I think, well deserved.

Lovely and helpful staff at reception, always willing to help with any questions you might have. The gallery also runs different courses throughout the year, including a weekly session for budding young artists. My 8 year old granddaughter relishes her time at the classes and the opportunity to share her work with others. The Suter also provides a fabulous , bright space to view the galleries exhibits which are always changing and varied, with the added bonus of dropping by the cafe with awesome garden views, for a delightful coffee and a scrumptious, edible treat. This place is definitely worth a visit, both relaxing and visually stimulating.

Lovely gallery with frequently changing exhibitions and lots of local art, often available to buy. Keep an eye out for the film festivals in the large and under-utilised cinema. And have lunch at the cafe with a lovely view of the gardens!

Was actually quite impressed with this gallery, it’s on the small side (4 rooms I believe) but each was unique. Manny the Moa exhibit was my favourite by far! You can purchase a Moa for $400 to add your own personal name to the exhibitThe cafe on site is also nice, big windows over looking the gardens. They do table service. The tea for 2 is just 2 pots though, so if you’re splitting with someone it’s better just to each get the tea you actually want since there’s no discount for tea for 2 vs tea for 1The gift shop here is also fantastic! A great selection of kiwi artists and art!!

I visit whenever I come to Nelson, even if just for a fleeting visit when passing through - and always encounter something beautiful or challenging or deeply moving. A wonderful place - and the cafe is good, too.

It is a good art gallery, keeping us captivated for around 45 minutes. I always love seeing both older NZ pieces i recognize and more modern and new work.
