Isthmus Peak Trail Small Parking
This Carpark needs an overhaul. It is really too small with no facilities. A public toilet would be a great idea as well as a proper car park off the road. Cars park here and the overflow into the main road is sometimes very dangerous. There also needs to be warning signs for motorists that there could be pedestrians around. Isthmus Peak is a brilliant hike however!

Isthmus Peak Trail Small Parking
The Isthmus Peak Trail is a similar walk to the more famous Roy's Peak. It's 8 km uphill to an astounding view of moth Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea. It's a bit of a slog uphill especially as it gets steeper near the top. Tempting to stop at the track junction but we'll worth the extra steps to get to the peak and the full glory of the view.

Absolutely beautiful hike! Took about 7 hours total for me to hike up and down (little hiking experience) was tough at times but worth the views. Definitely bring lots of water, food, warm clothing and raincoat. Gorgeous views of the lakes and it even snowed up top.

It's such a great hike! It took about 6 hours round trip. In the snow it was quite difficult but if there is no snow it would be more doable, still challenging but doable. The 360 view was incredible! It's definitely worth doing!

They recommend 3-5 h return. We needed 5.5 h in total. It is really steep all the time. But it is worth it. You can see two lakes from the top. One on each side of the mountain.

Isthmus Peak is a well marked trail. I thought the views at Roy's Peak were much more glorious.

Hard, but beautiful trail. Definitely plan for a 6-8 hour experience and multiple I think that's the top!" mistakes. Peak has 360 degrees viewing of both lakes. Grass and brush are up there to hide from the wind while you take a break."

She's a hard slog to the top with next to no shade but the track is easy to walk on and the iew at the top makes it soooo worth it. Views of Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka forever.
