If you don't mind the walk, there is hundreds of seals to see along the coastline. They just lie there basking in the sun on the rocks, and they're not bothered by people walking by so you end up pretty close to them. Definitely a highlight of visiting kaikoura.

Watch out your step! There are a lot of seals living here, you might bump into one of them on the way to colony.Don’t disturb them for respect! There are some car park at the entrance, just walk around 15-20mins , can get to the colony.

Amazing to see the seals. It is a fair trek to get to it. Be carful of the slippy rocks. The barrier is a bit too far from the shore for a close up look.

The hike is just incredible. Can see Seals from really close distance. The full hike can take up to several hours. A short return hike is possible from the car park

The most popular walk to see seals in their natural environment at Kaikoura, is the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway. As you do the loop and walk from the beach and then on top of the cliff. Keep a lookout to sea. Dolphins, whales and occasionally even orcas, pass the Kaikoura peninsula walkway and Kean Point.Yes, I have seen dolphins leaping out of the water in a pod.

What a beautiful experience to walk past so many beautiful seals just lazing away the day & doing their own thing. You can walk from the carpark on the beach to see them or take the peninsular walkway for great views & then walk down the cliff to the colony. Please keep behind the roped area as they don't like being disturbed

My 2 daughters and I had an awesome time walking around and watching the seals in their natural habitat. Totally recommend this to everyone to go and have a look around and enjoy your time there.
