Picnic at Boielle Flat, swim in the Waiotauru River, raft or kayak the Ōtaki River gorge, or enjoy short walks through Tararua Forest Park. Visitors can also see the steam-powered sawmill at Sheridan Creek, which operated from 1930 to 1938.

A beautiful natural environment...A spot for a day trip or a weekend camp that you will truly rest. The Road is closed at the moment. It's a 40 - 50min walk to the camp-site.

Good fun went with an Ice hockey team and everyone loved it, pre affordable only thing is course is a bit big but you'd expect to get a bit tired after an hour

Mercer Bay Loop Walk
One of the best place to enjoy nature, fresh air, water and beach. Very peaceful, calm, beautiful and relaxing. But the only thing is you should be ready for hiking since there are lots of steep steps and slopes both the way in and put. Almost 35-40min walk from parking to the beach. But its worth the time and energy spend.Lots of parking available.Washroom facilities available.

A fantastic destination in the summer - great spot for a swim in the river, and a large gras flat grass area for picnics. When not used as a getaway destination, it's used as the starting point for various tramping/hiking tracks. If you're only there for a short time, an explore up the few paths in the plateau over the bridge is great.

Really beautiful! Well worth the walk in. The slip is easy to pass as someone has made stairs and a rope handle

Stayed here for sometime in my campervan. Saved on many occasions by the amazing DoC staff. This place is super isolated, no reception at all, just GPS. No power, and water needs to be boiled. Which is all fine with me. Highly recommend hiding out here for a few weeks, great place to detach from the world!

Rotoiti Lodge Outdoor Education Centre
This is an excellent, invaluable resource that is affordable to students and educaters and is located close to the lake and tracks so that you can get to experience some of the best field trips in the region or country. The facilities are communal, clean and very adequate. You get bunk beds but you are not there for the creature comforts but for the invaluable insights and experience that your field trip and educators will impart to you.The large kitchen-dining facility ensures that even large groups (eg. 2 classrooms) will be well catered for. You can feed all the hungry students, lecturers and crew especially after their tramps, without difficulty. If you are a newbie to the NZ bush or an international visitor / student keep close to the party or an experienced group because it is not difficult to get lost, even on designated field trips, in the surrounding bush while you are out and about on your tramps.

Mercer Bay Loop Walk
One of our favorites in the north island! We went on a stormy day which was cool in a different way. Either way a beautiful spot. Definitely a lot of up and down in elevation though. I'd imagine that could be especially tough on a hot, sunny day.

Excellent dormitory accommodation for a large group catering for about 50-60. Communal bathroom facilities and on the doorstep of most of the local bush walks. Easy access to the visitors centre and a short walk to Lake Rotoiti.
