Take me back!! A hidden gem just outside Kaikoura. There was so much to explore and will most definitely be welcomed by all of the friendly animals whom all have names! The hosts were incredible. We were surrounded by beautiful scenery and energy. Thank you Leanne and Richard for creating such an amazing space.

The Artists Retreat is a really great place to stay. It has rustic charm, amazing views, lots of happy animals and the people that run it are generous and fun hosts. The house was very well supplied with basic foods, board games, cooking utensils, and boasts fast wifi. It has many beautiful artworks, created by their guests on the walls. An authentic, country house for families or couples. If you want a real experience of living in New Zealand, this is the place! The sunsets and sunrises were amazing.

Cubby House Stay - Kaikoura
A quirky, colorful and comfy place to stay just outside Kaikoura. Perfect if you have a car. You are welcomed by a fluffed up Turkey called Trevor who follows you around while you stroll through the paddock exploring the Morris Minor artist installations. Well stocked kitchen and very friendly service. We've loved staying here. Also recommend doing the Whale Watching. The crew are fantastic and sights today way exceeded our expectations. A lovely stay in Kaikoura.

Best experience ever! The stay is beyond our expectation. And we feel the hospitality instantly. Leanne is sooooo nice and considerable. The toys, the fridge (full of food), coffee machine, the snacks…all of these make us feel at home. Leanne also showed us around the paddocks and places near the house where we see cattle, sheep, pigs, turkeys, a deer, a cat, ducks, dogs, birds. And don’t be afraid, they are very friendly! If we visit NZ next time, we definitely will stay here for more days.

Cubby House Stay - Kaikoura
The Artists Retreat is full of character and a beautiful place to stay. The setting is idyllic, the view over Kaikoura and the Pacific Ocean is superb and there is a sense of peace and serenity. If you wish you can keep to yourselves as the retreat is private and there is no pressure to interact. You will miss out, though, as Leanne and Richard are excellent, generous hosts. Our son loved feeding and petting the animals. We enjoyed ourselves so much we would like to come back and stay a bit longer.
