Franz Alpine Retreat
This is a nice place with friendly staff. You can wash and dry for 6$ between 3 pm to 8 pm. The houses are clean and lots of space. You’re not allowed to do any cooking with a lot of smell (Curry e.g.). Close to Franz Josef which you can drive to within 15 min. The kids could play safely outside without adults.

A little out of town, but nice rooms. Sadly, no fly screens on the windows to stop the biting midges (or similar bug).

We stayed on our way to Wanaka. Lovely accommodation, well equipped, tidy and clean. The views are superb as well as the fact that the units are not connected wall to wall. All in all highly recommended and fair prices.

Stayed here on the way through to Queenstown. Very sweet and cosy rooms to stay in. We had all the amenities we would need to. Beds super comfy and just a very relaxing area in general. Thank you for our stay!

Franz Alpine Retreat
We've stayed here quite a few times over the past couple of years - we always really enjoy our stay. The rooms are comfy and well-equipped, and I like that each unit is private (no shared walls = no noisy neighbours), so it's always nice and quiet!The setting is just lovely - wonderful views all around, good opportunities for star-gazing (no light pollution), and heaps of birdlife all around.The owners are friendly and helpful too.Thanks :-)

Spacious and clean cabin, uncomplicated and friendly staff. Quiet location outside Franz Josef.No-go: If service is reduced (no room service and you have to clean up dishes before you leave) the room rate has to be adopted accordingly!

Nice place to stay but a bit far ( 4 km) from franz Joseph town. The room is Very hot in the afternoon but cool in the evening.

Very basic 1 bedroom cabin with no kitchen, just a microwave and no sink.
