Hotels aren't normally my first choice as many don't offer the most artistic or delightful dining, the boozy atmosphere less than appealing as well - which is why we ate everywhere else at Matakana over the years before trying the MVP. What a pleasant surprise! The smoked beef cheeks with the silky mash & truffle sauce is to die for! Absolutely gorgeous food! We will only ever dine here in future. Superfast service as well. Awesome!

First time to come to Matakana. I like the vibe of the manager. I’m not sure if he is the manager or might be the owner. He is welcoming. He tells us where the fishes come from fresh from somewhere nearby. Me and my special someone ordered fish n chips made from tamure. $30 each per plate but trust me it is worth the price. Fish was chunky and heavy we could hardly finish it. It wasn’t made economical at all. The slaw that came with the fish n chip plate was overloaded with salad they would hardly fit inside its container. Chips smells good you can tell they use fresh oil when they cook it. I’m a fisherman myself I know what a fresh fish tastes like. Theirs I tell you is fresh as. Music is good feels like same songs ‘The Breeze FM’ plays. Will come back again and again.

Had the burger, and what a great decision. Hot chips, perfectly cooked and the best bacon. Lots of beer on tap and the food the others were all eating looked as good as my burger. Home made pie specials looked so good . Great chef who obviously takes pride in what they do. And parking out the back.

We have absolutely loved our Argentinian grilled bbq lunch on Tuesday. The meat was tender and tasty, the flavours are authentic and delicious. Definitely recommended!

We were seated at 1.00 today and given menus. 20 minutes later sadly we decided to go to a different place to be ignored. I go there fairly often, but I might call it a day and use the new motorway to go further to somewhere better.

Awesome meal in great atmosphere with friendly obliging staff. Food was amazing only downer was dishes came out in random and not at same time. Quality of meal made up for that. Nice entertainment..Great singer. Highly recommend
