Marokopa Falls
One of the most beautiful waterfalls in New Zealand I'd say, Marokopa Falls can easily be categorized in New Zealand's top 10 waterfalls. It is located in the Tawarau Forest, a 29 kilometers or 45 min drive away from the popular Waitomo Caves on a winding sealed road. This is a full size, wide waterfall of 35m height, quite full on in the wet season with many different cascading features. There is a small carpark that can accommodate about 20 vehicles, and an easy 10 mins walk through native tawa and nikau forest will take you to the vicinity of the falls. Beware that the viewing platform is washed away so you have a very limited space to watch the falls from about 200m away, where there is a wooden fence barrier. It is quite challenging to take photos when there is a crowd so better be early to go there if you plan to take as many shots. Climbing down to the base of the falls is not that safe, particularly in the wet season. It takes about roughly 4 hours, 250km to reach this fall from Auckland.

Beautiful waterfall that is just a short walk from the car park. We happened to get there shortly after the rain had stopped, so it was really flowing (and had a nice little rainbow at the base). The viewing platform has fallen apart, but you can still see the falls.

Very impressive waterfall. Will visit it again when I'm in this part of North Island. The viewing platform was damaged during recent storms so entering it is prohibited but you can see everything nicely from behind the sign.

This was a dope waterfall! It was also a very easy hike to get to. I HIGHLY recommend it for anyone in the area. Not much for parking though, so I don’t know what it would be like on a busy day, but during the cold season, it was awesome! My wife and I saw 2 other pairs of people during the hour we were there. Also a big, awesome waterfall.

Unfortunately the viewing platform was under construction, but still a beautiful view nonetheless. Lovely walk to the waterfall, highly recommended

Access to the falls is closed although you can still get down to just before the platform. to view it. The falls is beautiful, but not worth it if you need to drive 2.5h to get here and only stay for 1 min to take pictures… Find another time when it reopens.

This place is very easy to find. You will find the car park on the left side of the road when driving from Waitomo caves. The walk to the waterfall is about 450 meters and takes you roughly 10 minutes to get there. The viewing deck is broken so no one is permitted inside but you can see the falls from the allowed area. You can go down the slope but it was very slippery. Sadly, no wheelchair is accessible. There are a lot of attractions to see on the main road. The track is not steep. It goes down a bit but upon returning. This is an amazing waterfall. You do not have to pay to visit this site and there are no toilet facilities here.

Nice side quest after doing Waitomo Caves. Just a 28 min drive away. Park at the side of the road, and take a easy 10 min trek down to the falls.Beautiful waterfall!

Simply amazing. Thought we were going to see a beautiful little waterfall but instead was blown away with the scale of this, far from little, amazing massive waterfall. Do not drive past, stop & view, you won't be disappointed.

Lovely walk to the waterfall. As you walking you can hear the waterfall. It’s breathtaking and definitely worth doing. Also nice quick relaxing walk (10 minutes each way) and so quiet
