Mokau Museum & Gallery
We visited to escape the heat but I'm pleased we did. An eclectic assembly of remnants from a time gone by from which we can seehow far we've come. The stand out detail, for me, was the abundant evidence that settler and Maori were able to co-exist in peace, friendship and mutual benefit once upon a time.

Small town, small display but the staff are friendly and are happy to direct you to the next town/destination.Neat little display of history in this museum and an amusing one-cell jail.

Great visit. Found the Anderson Stationary motor which was the same as the model I have restored. Beside it was the mill display. In the that area was a black diagonal treaded wheel on a shaft with a pulley at the end. I have the same in my collection and knew it was part of a mill. Could you please advise what your knowledge of it's use is please. Thanks Don McLaren, Levin

It was intimidating at first to go into this museum, but after going in, the curators were chill and let us be to wander and relax to look and learn about the British and Māori artifacts.

A gem! Very well presented covering a range of interesting material including local fossils and Maori artifacts. Check out the old local newspapers. Was it really like that in the 60's- things have certainly changed. Worth stopping for.

A very interesting museum.Excellent displays. Tidy and well run.An enjoyable way to spend a few hrs to appreciate what our early settler families did to develop the country we now have.

Spent over an hour looking at the exhibits and chatting to volunteer custodian about local history etc. Wonderful, and beautifully presented exhibits. Gold coin donation very well spent. Highly recommend.
