Interesting walk up from the wind turbine with a residential road guiding the way. Great views from the dome. We chose to walk from the dome down towards red rocks beach. Well worth it but some steep bits and fairly exposed. The round trip was about 15kms and would highly recommend.

absolutely beautiful lookout. I biked up here from red rocks and boy was it worth the effort. full 260 degree views from here - made especially nice while the sun is setting. Beautiful views of the city, the surrounding mountains, and all the way out to the coastal windmills.

It's a bit of a walk (about 30 minutes) from the wind turbine carpark (or a nice ride up the carparts extension and barking emu trails) to the radar dome, but once there you'll have amongst the best views of Wellington City and north to the Rimutaka ranges. An even more dramatic view can be found on the next peak further south from the radar dome, with swelling views both over the city, plus the South coast and across Cook strait to the South island. There are also old pill boxes and fun emplacements from world war II if you need a bit of historical concrete in your photos. From up here, it's a nice walk down to red rocks and the South coast, or a great old school blast on a mountain bike.It can be a bit gusty up here, and the southerly brings an unrestrained bite if you're caught up in the wrong weather.

Favorite training hike. A little over sea level to 500m right out my back door. Great views over the south coast. Also great on a not so nice day, wild and moody. Touch of weirdness to the place. Great as a mountain bike ride as well. Access from multiple tracks. Most commonly Barking Emu or wellingtons most infamous training route the Tip Track.

Went there with awful weather but was still a great time. Took some spooky photos! The views were covered by fog but it just added a really interesting atmosphere.

Great bike ride, three really steep sections. Road is rough but there is very little traffic.Watch out for traffic from the dog retreat place as they seem to have little respect for cyclists.

The views from this place are amazing, you get to see the south island and hills, and the water, and is very quiet since a lot of people just as far as the wind turbine
