Taxicat Adventures - Explore Lake Taupo

Thank you to Ian from Taxicat Adventures who made this trip (Full Monty) such a memorable experience. Full of knowledge and very easy going which made it really comfortable and relaxing day out on the lake. Would highly recommend!

We had the pleasure of being picked up by Ian at taxicab after an epic ride down the waihaha track. He was on time and waiting for us with coffee and biscuits. Great host and didn't mind that we had a quick dip. He even brought a towel! 10/10 would recommend.

Oh wow, what an incredible experience we had out at the Western Bays on the lake. We are locals and really enjoyed seeing a side of the lake we don't usually see. Ian is a gracious host and shared some great local tidbits of info on the journey. The boat is very comfortable and the views amazing. Can't wait to rebook for a longer trip. Fabulous outing for locals and visitors alike. Crystal waters, waterfall visits on the boat, and after a short walk in the bush. Not to mention the private beaches. Just magic! Thanks Ian. The family loved it.

We had an awesome morning out with Ian on lake Taupo, western bays, chasing waterfalls trip. The weather was overcast and a little rough out on the lake, but we thoroughly enjoyed the trip and Ian’s knowledge and commentary was excellent. The waterfalls were pumping due to recent rains.

Today we had a fantastic tour of the western bays of Lake Taupo with Ian from Taxicat Adventures. Absolutely amazing. Ian introduced us to some of the most beautiful parts of the lake. It was a spectacular afternoon and one I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Taupo and Kinloch.

Skipper Ian took our family (2 adults, 14yo and 11yo) out for the 3.5hr Full Monty trip. It was great - a real holiday highlight! Ian’s love for the area is infectious, we saw bays, beaches and cliffs that were off the beaten track and dipped the boat bose into waterfalls. We also got out on the paddle board (provided) and jumped off the roof of the boat! Great fun! Tea, coffee, hot choc and biscuits for the trip back to shore too. Highly recommended trip!

Great experience! Loved travelling in style across Lake Taupo to 2 Mile Bay Sailing Club for an amazing lunch. The skipper was friendly and personable. We look forward to coming back in the summer time to enjoy another adventure with Taxicat Adventures.

My partner and I had been on the rock carving cruise and decided to try an extended journey into the hidden Western Bay Area of Taupo Lake. We had a delightful sunny day with little wind and arrived after a short drive to Kinloch to be met by skipper Ian. From the moment he greeted us Ian was nothing but friendly, flexible and professional. He really wanted us to enjoy our day and you could see he is was delighted to show others his wonderful world. He was knowledgeable and kind and was all service and smiles. The trip was amazing - a highlight of our 4th trip to NZ. Boat was fast, fun and comfortable and Ian was quick to reassure us about the day’s adventure and everything he wanted to show us. Waterfalls a plenty, many he literally glides in to for a hand touch! Secluded beaches, wildlife everywhere and staggering 360 metre cliffs - throw in a swim and a delicious coffee and a chocolate biscuit and we could not stop smiling the whole way. We had signed up for the 2.5 hour trip (and yes there is a toilet stop) but luckily being Ian’s only guests on the boat that day, he was happy to upgrade us half way thru to the 3.5 hr fully Monty - so glad we did. It is wonderful that Ian has chosen to give the gift of the western bay to visitors who are prepared to see it after the short drive from Taupo - so we’ll worth it to access Ian and his well appointed taxi-cat in Kinloch - thanks Ian and best of luck to you and your business!
