Base Backpackers Wellington

I would definitely stay again. Friendly staff, peaceful atmosphere, easy check in and out and very centred. I would recommend to stay for at least a few days to explore Wellington a bit - it's definitely worth it. They do have a few limited car spots which need to be reserved otherwise is street parking during the night for free (just google parking wellington"). The reception is 24 hours and by time always open for a small talk. The rooms itself are clean

Dirty, they charge for WiFi in the rooms, WiFi broke in the main room with no ETA on a fix, one of the elevators is broken, it's loud, the beds are awful and its overall just a terrible hostel. Only giving it two stars because the bathrooms on my floor have always been clean and the nice guy at the front desk issued me a temporary proof of address document.

Would never book this hostel again.(+) Pros: location is good.(-) Cons: They got problems with their door locking system. The stoves in the kitchen don't get hot at all maybe warm. The showers are sealed capsules where you can't really breath while showering. Their lifts don't seem to work too well either. The kitchen is crowded (maybe because cooking takes ages on these cooking fields). The wifi is very bad. The beds squeak and the thin cardboard walls flex strongly if it is windy outside.

This is definitely the most cool Base hostel I’ve been. Beautiful to see, especially the main room. Comfortable and clean. The kitchen could be crowded but it’s well equipped and clean. Staff is nice and the only star missing is because of the wifi policy: only in the main room and actually so slow that it doesn’t work for the 90% of the needs.

Friendly staff and the bedrooms and bathrooms were clean. I got to my room and my bed wasn't made but they sorted it out quite quickly.The kitchen got really crowded - there's 24 cooking hobs on 6 cookers, but this is a seven floor hostel with hundreds of people, most of whom are probably going to want to eat at the same time. All the chairs were taken when we went to eat dinner too so could do with a few more - the space is big enough!I was after a good night's sleep as I was catching a bus at 0630 the next day. I was on the top bunk and at 3am the lad on the bottom bunk brought a girl back and started rutting. He wasn't quiet about it either, so accompanied with my whole bed shaking for ten minutes (impressive) I imagine his huffing woke up everyone in the 4 bed dorm. They followed it up with a nice chat, packed some bags and left the bathroom light on. I heard him joke to the girl (or high pitched boy) after that he would put the used prophylactic in the bin so her colleagues wouldn't find it, so I can only assume she works here. Nice.

DON’T STAY HERE!Me and my brother stayed there for one night and it was the worst night in a hostel we had during our whole trip around New Zealand... where do I start? The kitchen was disgusting, we couldn’t cook anything in there. Toilets.... Even worse! I think part of this bad experience was because of the kind of “people” that stay in this backpackers... if you are looking for a room to sleep and live like a normal human being then this is not the place! Noise 24 hours! The guy that was covering the night shift had to give us another room because there was two couples having sex in our room with two guys that were not supposed to be in there... we didn’t sleep at all and they didn’t even give us a refund!

Ive stayed in Base for some time now. I really enjoy the atmosphere, I have found other artists to practice with in the hostel. The beds aren't bad at all, showers on most floors are really nice and comfortable. My only criticisms are the pricey laundry and the closed view smoke deck.

Needs a serious renovation, carpets untidy. Beds loud. Service very unhelpful. Had to be moved rooms due to a drunk person at 3am in the morning which is fine, not the hostels fault. However, was told I would get a refund and on checkout they collected my details. Never heard back.

I love this hostel! Nice old building with tons of character!I used the self check in tablets when I got there and was able to go straight up to my room! The tipi app is pretty cool too! No more forgetting my key card in my room!Staff were very friendly and always smiling! Lisa was a great help booking trips for me!I would stay again for sure!

Its the best hostel i have ever stayed in newzealand. The room is nice and tidy and the bed was super soft. Especiall the toilet is really clean and also the bathroom are spotless. The pressure of water is really strong and also the hot water comes out well. All the facility here are so good
