Our Mum has had the privilege of staying at Coombrae for the past six weeks. From the time she, my brother and I first visited Coombrae I was impressed with the Eden Philosophy and how this is 'lived' by all of the staff we encountered. Since then I have come to experience that the Eden Philosophy is embodied at Coombrae and is an atmosphere into which I have entered whenever visiting Mum; or in speaking with senior staff by phone. I have also had the opportunity to experience the kind warmth of this atmosphere in the Rata unit, a secure dementia facility, linked with Coombrae rest-home.My experience as the eldest daughter and eventually EPoA for our Mum during this time has been a significant learning curve that has been supported wisdom, kindness, humour, compassion and clarity of all the staff at Coombrae, both senior and auxiliary.I work as a health professional in the care of vulnerable people and I would happily refer anyone's beloved 'elder' to Coombrae or the Rata unit.Nga mihi arohanui ki a koutou.Maria van Dingenen

Coombrae have a strong emphasis on the environment for the residents , as coombrae is their home , the residents can be involved in some of the decision making involving the home and certain aspects of it .they have plenty of activities and entertainment ,birthdays are celebrated .and above all they have great staff that love and respect their residents , as well as volunteers both adult and junior s who come into coombrae to visit with the residents and assist where needed ..

Totally disappointing place to work and live. So hard to see the nastiness between management and staff, but even harder (and totally heartbreaking) to see how badly residents are treated in THEIR home. Quit after a short time (and not surprised to hear of the high staff turnover) as watching the way these people are treated, especially in the dementia ward, was just too hard. Would NEVER recommend to ANYONE.
