South of the Barber

We stayed two nights here and it was really cool. We are travelling around New Zealand and this place was the best we visited. Clean, kitchen is full of everything you might need and rooms are cozy. Victor is great host and he is always smiling and chatty. :) Thank you for everything and good luck. B&B

Great place so stay! All is kept very clean and the rooms are spot on. The kitchen is well equipped and clean, so far we did not encounter such a spotless kitchen in a hostel, they are in a league of their own.Good beer and a decent meal is also close by with the brewery only 500m away. Victor was epic in helping us out, big shout out to you mate!

While cycling and camping all over New Zealand, we needed a dry spot to wait out a big storm in Greymouth. What a wonderful find! Cosy rooms, comfortable bed and friendly host. We loved the den and sunroom and the kitchen was clean and well stocked. Thank you Victor we loved South of the Barber!

Victor and his Colombian wife were incredibly friendly and helpful hosts. This place really felt like home. I was sick during our stay and Victor was so sweet and made me a soup to help me get better. The hostel itself is super clean, with a big, well equipped kitchen and cozy rooms.Gracias por todo!

The South of the Barber is an amazing place to stay with awesome communal kitchen dining area, plenty of space, awesome historic interoir with room for your whole company. Its got amazing views over Greymouth and is an easy walkable distance from the town centre. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly and can do no wrong. I would strongly recommend staying at this historic venue.

Very clean and stylish. The owner is very good guy, kind and helpful. The location is very good in the center of the town, walking distance to grocery store, McDonald’s and KFC. This hostel with a very big kitchen and all you need for cooking, also a great living room to catch up with friends and backpackers.

A very nice place to stay, the personel are amazing and they will do anything to make your day. We got recommended a nice walk and some cool sights. The rooms were clean and tidy and I really enjoyed how the hostel is very homely and cozy. It is more focused on relaxation compared to other hostels, so if you wanna party at the hostel, this might not be the place for you!

Stayed there 3 days and had a nice time. It felt like home the minute I stepped in and I didn't want to leave the place anymore. They helped me with recommendations to do, with my questions or just for a little talk. It's different then a hostel in the city and that it just amazing. The room was also amazing (chapel)! Had one of the best nights there so thanks for that!!

I am travelling with my girlfriend trough new Zealand and we absolutely enjoyed our stay in greymouth in this beautiful hostel. Victor and his wife (the owner of this lovely place) are super nice, friendly and very caring. The hostel is very very neat, clean and chilled out. We felt welcome right from the moment we entered the door. The rooms, the kitchen, the lobby and the bathrooms are well equipped and clean, the beds are comfortable. Wifi was good as well. Supermarkets and restaurant can be reached by a 5 min walk. We even had see view from our room. No negative aspects I could bring on at all, even the price was more than fair. I highly Recommend to go here!

I booked accomodation for the 1st XI Hockey Boys Team I manage along with 5 adults for a weeks stay at South of the Barber while we were in Greymouth on Tournament. Victor was an outstanding host and went out of his way to ensure we were happy and looked after.Gorgeous historic building which filled with afternoon sun and the West Coast sunsets from the lounge and bedroom windows were breath taking.
