Whakapapa Holiday Park
Traveled as a solo female car camper. I booked a vehicle space online & when I checked in I was graciously moved from the furthest possible camp spot to closest spot to facilities. I didn’t even have to ask, staff just took the initiative, saw what was available and made my stay so much sweeter with that gesture as it was a cold/drizzly winter night and now the bathrooms and kitchen were literally at my doorstep. Considerate, knowledgable, friendly staff. The layout of car camping is perfect - privacy, nature, facilities. And reasonably priced.I also like how they have reduced paper waste by laminating a map and getting campers to take a photo. Fav camp ground so far and always happy to return

Nice campground with clean facilities. The kitchen might be a bit crowded in high season, so be prepared that you might need to wait a litte bit before you can start cooking. Hot showers are provided and you can also find an extra laundry and drying room which was really nice to dry our wet towels. The holiday park is super nice located close to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and Mt. Ruapehu. You'll find the DOC Visitor Centre just across the street. A foodtruck in front of the reception is a nice plus (coffee is great and after a long hike you will love the fries and sammies!). The staff was super friendly and helpful, the sites are spacious enough and I really liked that they were a bit more private here than in other holiday parks.

This is a great place to stay for easy access to the Tongariro Crossing or Northern Circuit walks. The staff are friendly and helpful, the bathrooms and kitchens clean and the cabins are warm and cosy with good mattresses.Better than I expected for a standard cabin! : )A shuttle bus ($55 return) can take you from the Holiday Park to the start of the walk and pick you up if needed.

Beautiful place! Staff was very friendly and nice! The apartment was super clean and very comfortable. The little shop at the restaurant was very useful. The common kitchen and facilities was great! Loved our stay there after the hikes and was a great place to recover and rest!

Loved our stay in the cabin! Can't beat $50/night for free hot showers, full kitchen use (in a well stocked, easy to use kitchen, even during busy times) a food truck, friendly staff with great recommendations and hikes that leave from the end of the road. You get what you give and we were certainly feeling very happy with all that we received during our stay. Thank you for having us!

Lovely camp ground that feels like you're right in a lush forest. Kitchen is well equipped and has plenty of room to cook. Bathrooms are clean and the drying room was greatly appreciated. Reception staff is very friendly.Good base for Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

Helpful staff on the desk, clean and plentiful amenities, small but private campsites good for parking a vehicle on. Not recommended for tent campers but great for a car/campervan! Easy access to lots of hikes and the mountain. We'll be back for sure.

This place was just so very wonderful! We had a perfect two nights camped amongst the trees. The set up is just perfect, lovely separate sites amidst gorgeous bush and the facilities are just so well established and thought through. Thanks so much for a great stay - fully recommend this place to everyone! FIVE STARS!

A PPP with DoC, run by 2-3 dedicated women. We booked a lodge room but would recommend also the powered sites. In the beginning, we thought of it as a bit run down, as all amenities are a big aged. But the quality is quite high, the location amazing, the staff friendly, there is surprisingly good and stable wifi, a little food truck with very good food, and everything gets cleaned regularly. The atmosphere is very nice. There are shuttles stopping at the Holiday Park for the Tongariro Crossing (separate booking).
