Mount Hutt is a picturesque mountain located in the Southern Alps of New Zealand, and it offers an unforgettable experience for both adults and children alike. My recent visit with my children left us with lasting memories and a strong desire to return.First and foremost, the skiing and snowboarding opportunities at Mount Hutt are exceptional. The well-maintained slopes cater to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced riders. The resort provides excellent facilities, including well-marked trails, reliable chairlifts, and knowledgeable instructors who are patient and attentive, making it an ideal destination for families. My children, who were relatively new to skiing, received excellent instruction and quickly gained confidence on the slopes. The breathtaking scenery at Mount Hutt is truly awe-inspiring. As we glided down the slopes, we were surrounded by majestic snow-capped peaks and sprawling alpine vistas. The clear blue skies and fresh mountain air enhanced our experience, creating a sense of tranquility and beauty that is hard to find elsewhere. The resort itself is well-equipped with various amenities and services. The ski rental shop provided top-quality equipment, and the lodge offered cozy accommodation and delicious meals to refuel after an active day on the mountain. The staff members were friendly, accommodating, and always ready to assist with any requests.Mount Hutt's family-friendly atmosphere was evident throughout our visit. The dedicated kids' zone provided a safe and entertaining space for younger visitors, complete with gentle slopes and play areas. The resort also organized regular events and activities tailored to children, ensuring that they had a fantastic time both on and off the slopes.Overall, Mount Hutt exceeded our expectations as a family-friendly winter destination. The combination of excellent skiing, breathtaking scenery, and attentive service made our visit truly memorable. Whether you're a seasoned skier or a first-time visitor, Mount Hutt is sure to provide an unforgettable experience for the whole family.

A bit over $150 for day pass and ski hire. Great mountain that overlooks the Canterbury planes on a good day. Lots of room on the mountain, great areas to eat and keep warm, if you don't Snowboard or Ski you can hang out near the fire place and have a good time. Caters for all from beginner easy snopes and experienced runs to parents waiting inside having coffee and cake!

All the high rating reviewers are obviously locals who have never skied at a proper ski resort. I have visited here multiple times since 2011 and it was much worse this year than ever before. I will NEVER ever be back!! Firstly, the “road” up is a treacherous unsealed goat track made on the side of the mountain of very unstable siltstone with constant rockfalls and large rocks to destroy your tyres. It takes 40min each way to drive up on a good day. If there is any snow whatsoever they will force you to out snow chains on at the very bottom carpark even though there are chain fitting bays higher up the mountain. This forces you to drive on gravel with your snow chains which they are not designed to do, and can damage them or your car, and makes the drive up twice as long. The carpark is too small for the guests and often fills up early (before 9am), forcing you to park halfway up the track in the lower carpark and get onto their slow old crowded smelly bus. The field only has one cafe and restaurant, usually full of noisy families with yelling children all eating disgusting hot chips, chicken wings and pizza. There is NO quiet on-mountain dining. The lift tickets used to be around $100 per day for adults and $79 for full-time students. This year without any notice they removed the student tickets and dramatically increased the price of all lift tickets. Adult now $159. Very bad value for money considering the small ski area and extremely limited lift capacity.. very poor compared to International resorts. Overall feels like going back in time to the worst of the 1970’s!!

I've been to Mt Hutt a number of times, and I always have the same feeling of awe, excitement, and astonishment looking at the beauty of the snow-capped mountains around me. It is heavenly and surreal.

We did have a short day since we had to drive up from Fairlie. It snowed the day before so we had to chain up and that ate more mountain time. We didn't get to the snow until around 1100. The snow was really soft and powdery which was nice. Unfortunately, it was well used so it was quite lumpy both on and off-piste.There were three lifts. The North-West express, the closest to the cafe, led to the beginner's runs. The snow here was nice and there were powdery patches off-piste. some areas were a bit icy or very mogully, particularly in the bowl area. The summit chair goes all the way to the top. There were quite a few nice runs along here albeit a bit lumpy. There was also a trail that headed to the Virgin Mile to get along the edge of the resort. It had really nice views when the clouds left. the last chair, towers triple, is in a difficult area. I was wanting to head down through international but it was already late. I was able to ride up from halfway up though. That entry is near the top carpark and has an entry into the log chute. The base has a few eating options including a restaurant (Opuke Kai), a coffee kiosk (Sixteen10) and the Sky High Cafe. The cafe does have its own seating inside but you do need to purchase food from there. Otherwise, there are a few seats inside and quite a few outside.I quite enjoyed my time at Mt Hutt but would have preferred a smoother ride. The powder probably didn't help with that but did add something different to the trip.

Went up on the first weekend Mt Hutt was open. Not too busy but I recommend getting there earlier. Please if you have a 2 wheel drive car, put chains on! There is ice on the upper section of the road and it's incredibly dangerous if you start sliding

Mt Hutt is a great place for skiing, beautiful runs, comfortable lifts, very very short wait times to get on the lifts. On the snow, skiing itself is excellent. They need to put more work in with the customer service area & staff where lift tickets & ski hire is purchased. I had to wait over 30minutes to get served. The staff in the hire area & on the snow we’re very friendly & helpful. The cafeteria is overpriced, half the food advertised was not available. I would recommend bringing your own.All in all this is a great place, I’ll be back here again

If you want to go skiing in the winter and even on weekends, suggest you should arrive here around 7:30 otherwise the parking lots will be full soon. It’s dangerous to drive up with snow chains as there is no any fence around the road.
