The hotel appeared appealing in the photos, which influenced my decision to make a booking. Upon arriving at 1am after a delayed flight from Sydney, I was relieved to find a welcoming room and a comfortable bed. All I really wanted at that point was to get some sleep! My first order of business was to take a quick shower. To my surprise, the bathroom door opened in the wrong" direction

Pleasantly surprised, will definitely stay again! If you pay slightly more for the larger rooms, you don't even notice it's micro." The windows offer a great view

Pros:- Modern room- Great location- Front-facing staff were friendly and helpful- Luggage storageCons:- Floor not vacuumed- Room not serviced: I had to call to get more coffee cups and by the end of the stay, my room was full of dirty cups and spoons, the floor was filthy and I ran out of amenities (milk, coffee)- Bed is very hard and also quite high- TV didn't work. I was told by staff that it was a 'smart' TV but couldn't chromecast or use it for anything. It turned on for a minute and then turned off straightaway- The bar (a.k.a. the cafe and the reception) wasn't run by a person with a license so I was unable to buy a drink on both evenings- Room and bathroom not vented- Very light on amenities. No conditioner in bathroom but 'conditioning shampoo' which wrecked my hair. Dental kits etc. apparently available from reception though- Rooms are not soundproof. You can hear people talking and things through the wallsOverall, this was very much a no-frills experience and I would not stay here again. The front desk staff were very helpful and lovely but they can only work with what they have which apparently is not very much at all. Step it up, Microtel!

If you're looking for a modern hotel with a convenient location, look no further than the Microtel. The check-in process is as friendly as a golden retriever, and the good wifi and lots of USB ports in the rooms will keep you connected to the outside world like a cybernetic organism. The Chromecast is a nifty addition to the room, letting you stream your favourite shows and movies to the big screen. And if you're in need of a good night's sleep, the comfy bed will cradle you like a loving embrace. However, there are a few downsides to this otherwise awesome hotel. The windows don't open, so you'll have to rely on the air conditioning to keep you cool. And if you're a light sleeper, the bright standby light on the TV might keep you up at night like a neon sign.Additionally, the shower floor creaks like an old wooden ship, which can be a bit disconcerting. And don't count on the extractor fan to clear the steamy air out of the bathroom - it's about as functional as a chocolate teapot. But all things considered, the Microtel is a great value for the money. So if you're looking for a place to stay that won't break the bank, and you don't mind a few minor quirks, give it a shot!

Booked 3 nights here whilst in Wellington for a conference. I had a business queen room which had plenty of space, was nice and clean and the bathroom was nice and modern. The windows gave a bit of view but only of the street outside. Check in was a bit slow but not bad and the room has got loads of storage. The bed was comfortable and there is a heat pump/air conditioner in the room so good all year round. The downsides of the hotel are as it is by a main road, there is a lot of noise, especially from rubbish trucks collecting in the early hours. Woke me up a few times. Also, the tv has a very bright light on it but solved this by unplugging the tv. The mirror in the bathroom also has a small light which at night, illuminates the entire room. This was really annoying and kept me awake. It was only on my last night I discovered that if you hold the button down, the light goes off. So if the light bothers you, there's how to solve it. Overall it's an ok hotel, good location, good price and comfortable beds. Just a few negatives but not enough to put me off staying again, for work at least.

From when we arrived, the staff were very friendly and helpful and gave us great advice on where exactly we were staying and accessibility to the area, as well as being about 700 metres from Cuba Street. The rooms are comfortable, just do not have much hanging space and packing space for your clothes. Our room did not have windows that does not open up and was facing another building about 2 metres away. Good air-conditioning in the room, but the room can become hot and stuffy because you can't leave the air-conditioning running full time as it blows directly onto the bed.Great bathroom / shower area, shower has great water pressure. All the basics are in the room - small kettle, coffees / tea's, hairdryer, and an iron for your clothes. They have a Continental Breakfast, well priced and a great way to start your day with.

Location was excellent, very close to town and everything else. Room was nice and cosy but unfortunately no natural light / windows. Check in process was ok however when making my booking a month earlier I advised I would be booking a car park for the night, on arrival was told there were none available so had to pay and park on the street. Staff member that handed me room key also left without actually pointing me in the direction of my room (but figured it out relatively easy). Would stay again :)

Not overly happy with the stay. The Queen Deluxe room I booked got me a spot on the Vivian St side of the building. Less than satisfactory window glazing makes for a lot of road noise. I slept with earplugs every night of my stay. The doors to the rooms are not soft-close, so be prepared for discourteous neighbours letting the door slam shut. Constantly. There are no extractor fans in the bathrooms. Other reviews have pointed this out and been told the air circulation system is the extraction system. However the fans do not operate at a level required to remove steam from the room. No doubt the paint in the bathroom ceilings will start to flake and grow mold in due course.Other issues:- the base of the shower wasn't glued down properly so you couldn't stand in the centre of it without the thing popping up and down.- the tv mount was busted, so I had to prop the tv up to get it at a decent viewing angle. Hard enough task as it was, with the tv off to the left of the bed. How anyone is meant to watch anything on it comfortably is beyond me.The saving grace was the service. Pleasant staff. The bed was firm but I found it comfy. The room was clean and tidy. I actually liked the fact the room wasn't being cleaned every day - it's a wasteful exercise changing linen on the daily so for me this was appreciated.Unfortunately won't be back.

I'm a bit baffled by the reviews-- maybe some rooms have been refurbished and others not? My room-- although small with a tiny window that was about 1 meter away from another facing window-- was outstanding. Clean, good mattress, excellent pillow selection. As a business traveler who depends on these reviews, I can honestly say this will now be my go-to in Wellington.
