Vehicle Entrance Muriwai Beach
Great day out if you have a 4x4. The sand is pretty soft and deep at the entrance/exit but we managed to get in and out without any issue in a Mitsubishi Delica 4wd, with road tires. You just need to know how to drive on soft sand. No wheel spinning or hard breaking. And speed is your friend. Keep the momentum going. Just keep an eye on the kids as it is a busy beach with some people driving a tad fast.

WARNING: you need 4x4 drive to get to the beach. The sand from the road to the beach is too soft and slightly uphill to get there on 2 wheel drive.You can park in the gravel car park and walk up if your car can't make it. It's a good place to enjoy Muriwai from because it's not as busy as the other end

You need a good 4WD not a flat entry in and out Got to get a good run at it on way out And if going on up the beach (which runs for a good 20 , 30 kilometers ) get the tides right a high tide will leave you not much beach And that deeper softer sand up by the sand hills Still if you get the condition right you can have one of the best days to re member

The beach is locked during Christmas and new year. Highly do not recommend going there during the day the sand is HOT!

The entrance to the beach is fine if you know how to drive on very soft sand but many don't and get stuck, blocking access until they manage to get towed out.

Vehicle Entrance Muriwai Beach
This is the Muriwai beach entry and exit point for 4x4's and dirt bikes. Around 500 meters of soft deep sand to get through before you on hard beach sand, let your tyres down! The other entry point is on Rimmers Road.
