Sunday 25th June.Having come from the south side of the mountains visitors centre, the mountain finally shook of its wooly hat for me to see its top this afternoon.Good drive in. The visitors centre here is considerably bigger than the southern one and the drive in not as dubious.Worth the drive and worth the site.The mountain was snow capped on what turned out to be a clear sky (eventually.).

We went to do a circular walk, which lasted just over 2 hours, to do the 4 miles. It was a steady climb up a gravel road and then a beautiful, slightly tricky descent through the trees back to the centre. Fab walk on a sunny day.

Beautiful park! Freedom campsites with clean toilets and water, lot's of hikes for every type of fitness and what a view over taranaki! Well worth the visit, highly recommend! Make sure it's a clear day, and be prepared for weather to change in a minute, the mountain can be rough sometimes!

Drove there expecting to get advise about the walks but was greated by a person telling us the center was closed due to no power. Then said pamphlets are on the table and there is a weather report on the table. Not for here but to do with the cyclone coming. No help what's so ever. More help from a local walker. Thanks to her we enjoyed our day trip up the mountain.

The way takes ten hours to get into summit from infocentrum. There is one really difficult part to climb. I recommend to take gloves with you because of sharp volcanic rocks.
