Great place. Very clean and tidy. They even put electric blanket on as I got in late and it was freezing day.Definitely stay again next time I'm working up that way.

We were here for just over 1 month. The manager was super helpful to us(including my partner and baby daughter) and always said goodmorning. The room we were given however, was way too small for the 3 of us so it's built more for single people or a couples stay. Oh, and the other thing is that the kitchen is tiny so you'll probably end up purchasing takeaway while there.Other than that, we are grateful as it provided us with the basic necessities of shelter and amenities.

Staff friendly, room was huge and above entry with view overlooking street. The hotel has character and the room had been slightly modernised however the old parts are part of its charm. Free parking. Thank you.

Floors have stains bed barely holding together dust dirt everywhere bathroom needs a good scrub. Man at desk was wonderful even if his clothes were scruffy

The hotel building itself is a lovely classic, but hasn't had much attention in recent years - all that wood needs a clean and varnish, and the paint is cheap and peeling off all over the place. Classic fittings are lovely, but not when they're so old they stop working - I had to ask for help with the bathroom door-handle. However, the bed was modern, spotlessly clean, and comfortable, and there was plenty of heat if needed, as well as good light-excluding blinds. Value for money in the parts I really needed.

Stayed a few nights here. The owner is Gentleman with a great eye for detail. Unfortunately we caught them amidst renovating the hotel so most areas were cordoned off to patrons. My check-in hostess had a few customer service skills that needed work as she didn’t inform me that my key had the entry pin for after hours, didn’t tell me the Wifi password until I asked and room cleanliness was somewhat to be desired as I had to ask for clean linen etc.. Overall, my son and I enjoyed our stay aswell as the the close walk to town and food in the in-house cookery. I’m sure once fully up and running this hotel will be restored to its former glory with all the bells and whistles.

Definitely one of my favorite hotel experiences. Lovely, helpful staff. Rooms are clean and simple. Communal kitchen and tea area were very useful. We made our own meals for most of our stay. There is a nice restaurant next door and the bar is populated with super friendly locals. If you are looking for a commercial-type posh luxury hotel, maybe this isn't your place. The building is old yet stylish. The place has heaps of character and guests and staff were awesome. We will definitely stay here again if we make it back to Putaruru.

Room was very dirty, stains on carpet and door and paint peeling off windowsill. Service and location seemed fine.

In its day this Hotel would have been a hive of activity. We could see that it would have been grand, loved the staircase. Were greeted by a friendly person which was a good start. Yes, the place is tired and desperately needing some work done on it. Our room was at the front which as it turned out wasn't the best. VERY noise, both from people drinking and talking downstairs by the Bar but the trucks coming round the corner and changing gears throughout the night was more disturbing. In saying all of this our room was OK. The bed was good, the bathroom was very small but the shower was brilliant. Lots of hot water and pressure was excellent. There was tea and coffee making facilities in the room however, the communal kitchen was basic to say the least.Would we stay again? Strangely enough we probably would, but in a quieter room. It has so much history and there was a restaurant on site, although the food was pretty ordinary, it had a nice atmosphere. It was good value for what we paid ...
