A historical landmark. However it is not really accessible as you have to walk on side of the winding 2-lane road and kind of risk your life ... yet you're still not able to get close to it.

An interesting monument to see while spending time in Arthur's Pass is the Arthur Dudley Dobson Memorial which is situated alongside the West Coast Highway a few kilometres outside the village.There is car park just east of the memorial for the Dobson Nature Walk. There is actually a pullover spot just west of the monument as well. You can walk through a impromptu path through some scrub right up to the monument.What you find here is a simple, rectangular shaped stone stack. Near the base is the name Arthur Dobson Memorial as well as a plaque with a dedication to Dobson for efforts to explore the area and discover the pass linking the east and west coast of South Island through what is now Arthur's Pass.Have a quick look at the memorial if you enjoy monument viewing during your travels. Then carry on with your drive through the pass or hikes in the area.
