Hostile, rude host. Clearly used and unclean tea cup made us question if the rest of the room had been cleaned - I seriously doubt the pillows" were

Walked out after first night. Imagine Fawlty Towers but more rude, racist and generally offensive. Had to leave before I decked him.Big room. Cheap.

If you like to stay in a terror place, this is the perfect spot; John is not a friendly and cordial manager; I've never been in a hotel that gave me so many warnings to stay. The rooms are cold and damp with the smell of confinement; we got a room on the lower floor. The breakfast, I saw how a pot of jam used by a passenger was passed by John to another table as if no one had touched it. I ran away from this place; no matter how cheap, it was preferable to spend the night at the airport or in the street.

In August 22, my 17-year-old daughter and I stayed at the Richmond Guest house in Wellington. It was the worse guesthouse experience we ever had, and I stayed in many places all around the world. The host, John, was so rude and belittled us. I wanted to be compassionate because of the bad scarring on his face from bad burns, but that is no reason to treat others so badly. He made fun of me being German and made rude remarks about foreigners and women. I lived in New Zealand for 22 years, and before that, I lived in many different countries all around the world, but I had never experienced anything like this. On top of that, he kept staring at my pretty daughter, which made her very uncomfortable. The room was dusty and not that clean, but the beds were clean. So we stayed. Wellington was busy that weekend, and we would have left if I could have found another place in the city centre. We didn't go down for breakfast because we didn't want to have another encounter with John. We heard him knock on other guests' doors to remind them that it was time to leave just before 10 am. Luckily he spared us. I recommend reading some of the reviews on google which tell a similar story. The only positive about this place is the low price, but that doesn't make up for feeling unsafe and being treated badly. It's awful! Don't stay here!

We had a terrible welcome, if you can call it that. Our room a horrible, musty smelling room. We booked two rooms but no door separated us so it was actually one room. It was too musty to sleep in the bed in the corner by the door. The shower outlet in the middle was fully clogged with hair and black dirt, water collected in the bottom when we showered (didn't look like it had been cleaned for over a year to be honest...). We requested the cleaner to clean it, which she did. The cleaner was lovely. There was no kitchenette to wash cups after making coffee in room. No water to drink apart from out of bathroom tap. No fruit at breakfast (bring your own!). Squeaky, wabbly table in room so couldn't use. No air freshener so had to spray perfume to improve the smell and air the room each day (all windows opened). Sheets seemed old and we questioned whether they were even clean. A seat outside would have been a nice addition. The host was incredibly rude, unfriendly, unprofessional, and made derogatory comments about our hometown and people he had met from our hometown. We would not have stayed at all if we had arrived earlier, and didn't stay 4th night as planned as it was so unpleasant. The positives however were: good location close to town and shops, cleaner was friendly and helpful when cleaning was requested, parking was good with a coupon to allow us to park on the street. We gave verbal feedback to the host upon leaving, and hope he takes it on board.Would definitely not recommend staying here, and we will not be back. Worst experience, and almost ruined a trip that was meant to be special.

No pillowcases, just cushions, seemed somewhat unsanitary. No lock on the inside of the door makes you feel a little vulnerable. Bed base is wire mesh, it's like going back in time. Convenient location.

This is a great location but a couple of things as a solo woman traveller that were not fabulous.1. No internal lock on my door made me feel a little anxious2. Dark street with poor lightingIn regards to the quirky decor it's interesting and not a problem but the pillow slips were unusual with tapestry type cushion cover fabric and I put clothing over them.Generally a bit tired but clean, except behind the bedhead which I had to pull out to access power for charging the phone.Could do with a regular deep clean.I did not stay for breakfast as too busy so cannot comment. The owner/ manager is friendly, and possibly too friendly as I felt awkward to extricate myself from the conversation to get some privacy and rest in my own room.I don't want to seem rude or unfriendly but I paid to sleep there not to have to make conversation. That's just me though. He is friendly, helpful and very hospitable. It's in such a great location close to everything.

Close to the city. The owner/manager made too many negative comments on foreign people. The bedroom was spacious but the beds needs to be changed as they are too soft/old.Breakfast is included but limited (cereals, and toast)

Rooms are nice, very clean, well appointed and comfortable. Convenient location short walking distance to many cafes and restaurants.Host could do with some people skills - very rude at arrival, continued with disparaging remarks while showing me around, and got sick of hearing I have 20 new people a day" & " I'm a betting man so..."If you can tolerate being insulted on arrival then stay

Very pleasantly surprised with the quality for the price.Arriving at 11:30 after a late ferry the host was still waiting for me which was nice and friendly. This is only a 10 minute drive from the Bluebridge Ferry terminal (the roads were deserted!) which is a big bonus. There is no parking and the streets surrounding it are narrow, however I had no problem whatsoever finding on street" parking only around 100 meters away - it didn't matter to me that this was "coupon parking" between 9 and 6 pm as I was long gone by 9 am.The host had turned on the heater for me
