Great vibe, margs and food! The guy serving us was so lovely and fun. Really great range of cocktails and the food was outstanding. Some interesting things on the menu and wide range. Would return next time I visited Christchurch.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch on a mild day outside and enjoyed it a lot. Great selection of dishes and most can be shared. The fish taco is a favourite. I also love drinking the palomas… delicious!

I always get the beast board without thinking. Totally worth it! Great quality meat. I always love the atmosphere in this place. It’s fast, busy and always great for people watching. For an easy dish I recommend the nachos. It’s huge.Staff are usually friendly and take on feedback very well.

A good 3rd experience.This was our 3rd visit to Chiwahwah. It was as enjoyable as the previous 2 visits. On all three occasions, the place was full and buzzing.We were served by Emily whose service was friendly and cheerful.We shared a few vegetarian dishes between 4 of us.I will happily go back here another time!

The food tasted like the chef had seen a picture of taco bell mexican and tried to recreate it based on sight only. No spices at all, no salt, no depth of flavour. The chorizo beans had black and green super market deli olives in it and the nachos appeared to be covered in bechamel sauce?!? Do not go here unless you are breaking up with someone and want the heart break to be the 2nd worst part of the night.(The staff were lovely)

I really enjoyed my dinner at Chiwahwah Mexican Cantina.I was lucky to get a table without a booking, even for just a party of one. So I recommend making a booking if you plan on dining here.I ordered the roasted cauliflower that came with a romesco sauce, a fish taco, and one of their sangrias. Everything was delicious! I love roasted cauliflower and theirs definitely ticks all the boxes. It was perfectly charred on the outside and soft on the inside. The romesco sauce was bright flavors from the acidity of the tomato, which paired well with the smokiness of the cauliflower.The fish taco was good too! It wasn’t greasy despite it being fried. It came with capers, which I don’t actually like, but in this taco it was yummy and needed with the fish. The sangria was comprised of rosé, mint, and strawberries. It was light and fruity.Service was excellent! The staff made sure I was doing fine throughout my meal. The atmosphere is vibrant and loud.Chiwahwah’s seems to be more of a fusion restaurant, but I don’t think they advertised themselves as a traditional Mexican restaurant anyway. If you want good food with Mexican-inspired flavors, definitely check them out.

Really love this place, the food is always delicious, and their cocktails are superb. Only issue I have is how popular the place is. It gets really noisy during peak service, so make sure you speak up to your wait staff, so they can hear you over the din.Looking forward to going back.

We had a fantastic evening at Chiwahwah. Both times that I have been, the food, atmosphere and service have been spot on. By far the best Mexican I have had in NZ, and the best service too. Clara looked after us this time and her recommendations were perfect for our group, and she made sure we had a really nice evening. Will definitely be back!

Friendly staff. Portions are big - we asked if it would be too much food and were told it was just fine but ended up with leftovers.Everything tasted nice but you can feel quite heavy (thick dough and cheese entree, potatoes a bit greasy).Highly recommend the modern taco - they seaweed taco shell is super crunchy.
