Budget Car Rental Christchurch Airport

Without doubt the worst rental company I have ever had to deal with, overcharged by 1500.00 NZD. Had to dispute entire payment and leave bank to fight this. Customer service responses were poor. CEO of branch Lee Marshall did not respond to email, and blocked responses on Linkedin. Guess the poor performance starts at the top and trickles down. Would give less than 1 star if that was possible. If bank do not get money back, will end in NZ small claims court.

They tell us when we arrive that they have no car available that we booked. Sanduni Perera the store manager gave us no choice and just cancelled our booking when we complained. Her line “please understand our situation, we didn’t receive any cars”. No apologies at all.Update: Sanduni did not even process a refund so I’m having to follow up. She emailed me twice to ask to remove my friend’s review before she processes a refund, which is not even my review. No apologies again. They didn’t have the car available so a refund is my right. She’s acting as if she’ll only do this “favour” to process the refund for us if we comply with her demand… what an insane person running this branch of Budget. Please avoid. I will have to just apply for a chargeback if I don’t get my money back.This person Julienne who replies on Google Maps reviews does nothing either. I think they just reply to pretend to offer customer care.

Friendly and helpful staff. Good price especially as it was over the holiday period. Car wasn't overly 'dirty', but wasn't as clean as I would have expected.

I was charged for a full tank of gas on a MG I had to return at a diff location that was broken. Did nothing to help correct the wrong charge. 194$Check your receipt!!!!!!

Great location for a quick car pickup. The line was a little slow - it would be amazing if they could have customers fill out their details before arrival, or have tablets there for people to use while in line. It would really speed up the process and is easy information for people to complete themselves.We're happy with the car we got and the service from Chee was very friendly and helpful once we reached the desk.

We sadly cannot put 0. We rented a car online months ago. Upon landing at the airport, the staff at the counter informed us that NO car was available. We asked to escalate to the manager on duty. The manager (a lady, I think her name was Sandini or something like this) came to tell us she didn’t really care about our problems and would simply cancel our booking and proceed with a refund. We asked her if she could help us find a car somewhere else given it’s a very busy period of the year. She simply answered she wouldn’t care about helping us and didn’t care if we couldn’t find a replacement car. It took us 40mn at the airport to finally found a car at Hertz. Hertz has been super helpful and gave us a nice car straight away for the same price.This manager should NOT be in a client facing role as she can’t deal with customers (when Budget was in the wrong) and clearly can’t handle out of the ordinary situations. When we asked why she wouldn’t help, she just said she would stop talking to us and just left in her office leaving us unattended. What a shame and bad customer service.We were charged at the time of booking online. We should even ask for the interest rate to be refunded to us.Never again I will book with Budget (I guess their name says it all, it’s very budget customer service too).

Booked a car that already had a damage on the front windshield at pick-up. I wanted another car but it was the only one available. I took photos and begged them to acknowledge it. Obviously 2 days after drop-off, and even after they told me that everything was ok, I received an email, they want to charge me for the damage. I really feel like I'm being scammed. I do not understand how they can do this to clients... If you can, please book with other companies !

Recently my family rented a car using Budget Rentals from Christchurch Airport. Despite arriving at 1:30am to collect the car the staff member (Arthur) was so wonderful and really made our morning. He was so helpful, caring and even made us laugh! The car we rented suited our needs perfectly and was very tidy and clean.

I booked 2 months ago for a car for 2 weeks in NZ. I payed for it. My flight has been canceled due to weather conditions. I sent an email to Budget NZ to tell that I will arrive the day after. And that I need them to keep my car. When I arrived the day after the beginning of my rental, my car had been picked up by another client. And budget has no more cars for me. Budget don’t refund me for that neither. What a scandal. At least you should ask your clients whether or not then want to keep their booking when not here the right day!!! Please fix this situation. Thank you.
