Samrat Indian Restaurant
The menu was detailed with a wide selection on offer. A very pleasant dining experience. We were struggling to finish. I did enjoy the chicken tikka brought out to our table on a hot sizzling plate. The breads were fresh and hot and the raiki (?) Yoghurt/green dip was fresh and appertising. We have been a few times now and have always enjoyed the quality. The staff were very attentive and obliging.

We dine here regularly for the great tasting dishes and quality service. The man running the restaurant is very generous.

This restaurant is a hidden gem of the Waikanae region. From the moment you step inside the restaurant, you are greeted with a cosy ambience and great hospitality. The food is delicious and portion sizes are decent. The owner personally made sure we were enjoying the food and offered great insights into the menu, origin of dishes and provided recommendations after understanding our preferences. We had seekh kebab for entree followed by saag paneer and bhuna gosht. We were licking our plates...very tasty food. Highly recommended restaurant.

To say the food was delicious would be an understatement, very authentic, just the right flavors. The shining star of this restaurant was our gracious host Mr K Ram. He made us feel so welcome, thank you very much. We will definitely return.

Recently purchased two of Samrat Indian Resturant key takeaway main meals: # 1. Vegetarian Korma and #2. a Beef Vindaloo. Side dishes were a Garlic Roti, two Garlic Naan and a bowl of Onion Bhaji. The main meal flavours were not quite right, plus the two Garlic Naan's being bland and doughy. The Roti was excellent as was the Onion Bhaji. Hopefully today's meal isn't reflective of Samrats normal Indian cuisine.

I've never been more angry with a restaurant in all my life. I've just purchased a home in Waikanae and placed my first order with Samrat, for delivery via DeliverEasy. In summary, the meal was bad, I asked for a replacement and the owner of this restaurant accused me of lying. Avoid this restaurant at all costs. The order arrived and I plated it up - noticed that the rice was cold, freezing cold. You could literally feel cold on the bottom of the container. I microwaved it and plated up the Chicken Tikka Masala that I'd ordered. The meal looked very odd compared to the other Chicken Tikka Masala meals I've had around the World (including the fantastic Ruchi restaurant in Lower Hutt, from where I've just moved). I took a mouthful and noticed chunks of raw onion and, unfortunately, the rice was still not hot (I only gave it a 30 second blast in the microwave, believing it just needed a slight reheat). I didn't even get to opening up the naan bread at this point.I called the restaurant and explained the issues. I asked for the order to be replaced and was told to drive to the restaurant 15 minutes later (even though I paid for delivery already). I got there and the owner approached me and asked where the original meal was and what the issues were. I explained the issues and he said I was lying about the rice. He then insisted on seeing the original meal, which I told him was in the bin. He was suggesting that I was lying about the issues to get another meal. I then got told that the raw onion chunks are a feature of the Chicken Tikka Masala - sure, nowhere else in the World. I had my meal replaced, but only after a lot of arguing and further accusations that I was lying in order to get a free meal. The sad thing is that, without the chunks of raw onion in my replacement meal, it was alright as a dish - not an authentic Tikka Masala by a long shot, but perfectly fine. However, due to the way the owner has behaved, I will not be ordering from here ever again - and I strongly discourage others from doing so.EDIT following reply: I tracked the DeliverEasy driver - he came straight from your restaurant to my house, a mere 4 minutes away. Also, only the rice was cold...so you can't blame this on the driver. Returning the meal to you, rather than putting it in the bin, would've proved nothing - the rice would definitely have been cold then. Goodness me, talk about nonsense.Further, you only replaced the meal (just one, not sure what you mean by all of your meals") with significant protest and suggestions of me lying - so NO

So I went to dinner and was charged $183 for two meals, there entries, two wines and 6 whiskey and cokeWhich I paid. The next day when I called up and made the same order (because I wanted to check the prices) it came to $132 which I thought that this was odd so latter that day I went and spoke the the guy that served me, to ask about the price difference. He told me that the prices on the menu where wrong and that I had to add 50c to everything on the menu and that the whiskey at $8.50 didn't actually include the can of coke and that the actual price was $14.50 ( this is not explained on the menu) because I would never pay that much. Anyway even with this dodgy explanation the total only added up to $178 and not $183 of which I was originally charged. I did enjoy the food but I strongly recommend that you check the exact prices before you dine.

April2022. What a find. One of those date night successes. The smells of spices when you walk in is yum. Quiet when we arrived, and busy when we left. 2 tables had regulars at them,, 2 families with young children, 1 with our older generation.. They all looked comfortable and happy. So the meals.. Starters were shared, as well as the mains. Well portioned, hot, flavoursome. We chose 'medium' heat, has a little kick for the buds. Front of house perhaps Father&Son, worked so well together, and in training a young adult whom the Son did a wonderful job of shadowing.

We just enjoyed a wonderful impromptu birthday dinner at Samrat Indian Restaurant. They have a large selection of stuffed breads and the curries are delicious. Order “extra hot” if you can handle serious spice; it was delightfully picante for these homesick Texans! The atmosphere was so cozy on a rainy evening. But the crowning feature was the attentive and funny owner! He made our night. We’ll definitely swing by again if we’re ever back in Waikanae.

The best curry in the greater Wellington region. Without fail, the Samrat team is warm, friendly, and fast. Perfect meals every time. And the Naan...we always need extra as the kids hoover them.
