Totally worth a visit and an amazing stop that was totally unexpected. The displays were informative, but the best thing was simply to speak to the passionate staff who were engaging, knowledgeable & friendly.Amazing place to learn about the history and valuable finds many of which were found in the locality. It boggles the mind to think about the geological history of the region!Thank you.

Very Small museum can finish in less than 30 mins.Lots of rocks and fossils to look at and also a chance for the kids to dig for fossils.$20 for a family. $10 per person.

It is sad that because is run by volunteers, the timings are not necessary accurate. We had driven a Little more than an hour. We knew that we wouldn't have much time to see but when we arrived the person in charge was closing. I asked him if it was possible for the kids to take a fast look around and he said that no body have come all day and he was ready to go go I told him that the time in the website said that it closes at 5pm and he said that he didn't give Care what it said. That he was ready to go home. So we couldn't see the place.

The Vanished World Centre, aka the pamphlet mecca of Duntroon, has some cool fossils of the large creatures that once roamed the deeps of the south. That's pretty cool. Great pamphlet/fossil showcase shop. The Vanished World Highway (found in one of the Vanished World Centre's pamphlets) is a real treat for rock enthusiasts and a proper nightmare for anyone who's seen The Hills Have Eyes/Texas Chainsaw Massacre. We got screamed at by cows, saw a duck being hanged, the roads had been both flooded and burned at once, an invisible force throw a rock at my sister's head, and we ended up in a place called Georgetown" that is made up of two houses and a cemetery. My recommendation: stay in the fossil shop."

Wonderful place if you are interested in fossils or geology. Amazing to think that many of the exhibits were found within 50 kms of the museum. While many of the original bones are held at Otago University, the casts on display look very authentic.

Very disappointing, was expecting more. $10 entry fee was way too much for 2 little rooms. Gold coin donation would be more realistic.

Been here a few times now, (I trained as a Geologist) and this is run by a group of lovely and passionate people who are super helpful. Met one lady there today and she remembered my son coming up on his recent field trip.I'm pretty certain they're all volunteers and I would 100% recommend supporting them.

Vanished is a good place to have a quick stop and stretch your legs. The stuff they sell are relatively cheap to buy ($6 for a fridge magnet about Mount Cook, $8.50 for a child's play telescope, $8 for growth crystals, $2.50 for a stamp that stamps penguins). They're cheap, don't have a wide variety of thing-a-ma-bobs (but they do have thing-a-ma-bobs), and are very friendly. This quaint place probably deserve more starts, but I didn't find something exceptional. I didn't go into the fossil museum ($10) so my rating's probably unfair (as it's only about the gift shop).

Was expecting more. But it was ok. Thought it had more real fossils than plastic ones and I guess kids would love it. It was good to see something interesting in a town like Dunroon.
