This experience was absolutely magical. I’ve done rafting in Waitomo, glow worm cave tours in a few caves at Waitomo and the glow worm cave tour in Te Anau and Underworld Adventures takes the cake. The amount of glow worms on the cave ceiling is far superior and drifting down the stream with these in view above is like nothing else. The cave is spectacular with some very unusual formations. Our guide Andrea was excellent, sharing great stories and info and making us feel safe throughout. Tubing down the river through the rainforest at the end was also very special. Highly recommend!

We came here for the cafe. We ordered coffees, fluffies, a lemon slice and brownie. The food was excellent, and the cafe space itself was stunning. Huge windows with views to the ocean and dramatic mountain range. We felt completely transported. The gentleman serving us (whose Dad built the remarkable building and brother designed it about a decade ago) was charming with a contagious optimism. This is easily a highlight of our ten day road trip and we didn’t even come for the caving experience!

We did the Glowworm Caves Tour and really enjoyed it. At first we received our wetsuits and helmets and got a safety explanation. After a short bus ride we travelled with a little train which took a windy path through the forest. After a short walk we arrived at the caves and there our guide showed us amazing stalagmites and stalactites while explaining how they are formed and what is so special about it. The guide took the photos as it wasn’t permitted to take own photos. The taken photos were provided via a download link right afterwards and looked beautiful. At the end of the cave we hopped onto our tube and switched our helmet lights off to enjoy the magnificent glowworms in the absolutely dark cave. It was like looking at the night sky, certainly something special! As soon as we exited the cave we took the tubes down the river to get back to the train. The tube ride was a fun experience, a little bit similar to rafting. All in all we had a great time and learned a lot about caves and glowworms!

We booked a Glowworm tour and were really excited to get great views of the Glowworms as advertised. Unfortunately due to heavy weather we were told in advance, that there is a chance we won’t get to the main cave where you can get the best views of the glowworms. The guy at the counter was super friendly so we had great expectations for the tour itself. As soon as we met our tourguide the first impression was gone. No heartly welcome, no introduction to the equipment no friendly words. The tour felt like a standard walk through the caves, filled with some information about what you see, but not more. The guide did not comment not going to the main cave where you get the best view of the glowworms. At the end we got soaking wet as part of the travel to the Cave is a tram ride with insufficient rain coverage. Our chairs were flooded in water. At the end no gentle goodbye or further comment. It felt like everyone was happy the tour came to an end. Is it too much to ask for any of the magic phrases of the hospitality industry as you pay quite a high end price (145$/p.P.) for this experience? It was a cool adventure but under this circumstances we would not do it again. Everyone can have a bad day. The cave is beautiful and it is quite thrilling to walk through the heart of a mountain. But you can expect more for the price you pay.

Absolutely loved our tour. Has a mix of everything. Nice walk out in nature, walk through a cave with some spectacular glow worm viewing, then to jump on inflatable tubes and float through a part of the cave and up the river, and I can't forget the wee train ride to get in and out.Our guide (Andrea) was extremely knowledgeable in the area, the history of it and how it all came to be.I would definitely recommend anyone visiting the west coast go take this tour, it is well worth your while!

Really great tour in small groups. Our guide is very friendly and approachable. Explain everything in great details and answered all our questions very patiently. Even wait for me to take pictures so that I can get these astonishing photos.

Great experience. Ray our tour guide made the trip for us. He is the owner of the buisness but came out of retirement to help out on our tour. Shame he doesn't do it full time still! If your thinking between doing the rafting or just the hike then do the rafting (we did only the hike) but think the rafting would be so much better. You will see 30x the glow worms we did.

I would highly recommend the Underworld Cave Tour. We took our children aged 8 and 11 on this tour and it was just fantastic. We travelled into the forest by van and then train, which the kids thought was great, before climbing the 130+ steps and into the cave. We were exceptionally lucky to have a highly experienced tour guide Ray, who kept us all entertained with interesting stories and facts about the cave. He happily shared his enthusiasm and expertise, as he expertly guided us through the cave. We all thoroughly enjoyed our 3.5 hour cave adventure, especially seeing the glow worms and finding out so many interesting facts about caves. Well worth a trip to Charleston for this wonderful experience.

The Nile river train trip was just awesome, well run with fabulous information. About a 12 min train trip followed by a 7 minute walk brought you to a swing bridge. Highly recommend this tour.
