We stayed at the Wedderburn Cottages for one night as part of our Otago Central Rail Trail adventure. Our cottage was comfortable and clean. We’d gladly return. We loved the view of the sunrise over the valley.

The good - gorgeous rurallocation, clean, and a comfortable bed.Not so good - cottages are actually half cottages and tiny (two adjoining studios per 'cottage').... which would have been okay except that our deck's view of the landscape was blocked the entire time by cars parked directly in front - a photography group coming and going (including at 6am - engines idling for ages while they melted the ice on windscreens) who the host had inexplicably put into cottages slightly up the hill with no carparks of their own.I'd urge potential guests to avoid cottages 5 and 6 in case this parking policy is standard - except that you're not even told your 'cottage' allocation until you arrive. We were really looking forward to staying here but our experience was disappointing.

We broke down at the Wedderburn Tavern (across the road from The Lodge & Cottages) and Lorraine kindly let us know we were welcome to use the public toilet and shower facilities on site while we waited to be towed the next morning. When we met her the next morning, she kindly acquiesced to our request to get closer to the sheep, taking us in a farm tour across the paddocks, and made time for a good long chat. Thank you so much for your hospitality. We would definitely love to stay in the cottages one day when we return to bike the Otago Central Rail Trail.

Beautifully appointed, comfortable cottage within a short stroll of the Wedderburn Tavern and with stunning countryside views. The host was lovely and the breakfast provisions very generous. I'd happily return at any time.
